Re: Snails in Pleco Tanks
When the snails are placed into the tank, they can pose a risk of carrying a desease. In this case the snails are in the tank, and nobody is ill. I would not fear any risk.

Re: Guianacaras/Bandit Cichlids with L397?
If it is a display, provided there are lots of places for the plecos to hide, it should work fine. The biggest issue I find with such set ups is that the Panaqolus will gorge on any uneaten cichlid food. This can lead to bloat issues over time. I would use high protein dry foods sparingly. -Shane A...

Re: F1, F2, F3... SO confusing!
It is always applied to crosses, although the crosses can start with two wild-caught parents of the same species This is actually one I don't agree with in any form. There is no way to know if the wild-caught parents are from the same lineage or not. Not all fish are migratory, meaning they will ma...

Re: Lifetime of your fish
My oldest fishes were 2 Platydoras costatus - later I found out they were P armatulas which I got in 1988. They died last year, after 32 years
A pleco, Pt gibbivceps lived 24 years
I did not have any other fish over 20 years.

Re: Sturisomatichthys panamense?!?
I don't know about these fish, but unless the fishes were sold as wild caught, or decendents from wild caught ones, I would assume they descended from the genepool available in Norway. I do know that the genepool available in the Netherlands is most likely a mixture of several species, but that is a...

Re: Sturisomatichthys panamense?!?
Quite a while ago I had a few Sturisomatichthys sp, of the Dutch genepool, and Sidguppy, who used to be active on this forum came along. Wow he said, those S panamensis are huge. Huge they were, around 20 cm (8 inches). But, I did not believe them to be S panamensae, I always believed they just happ...

Re: Morphological deformities in Trachelyopterus galeatus in the Upper Parana
This is a bit odd to me. The fish, T galeatus is not native, and most likely this means a few have been "liberated" in this river. Now, quite a few years later, deformities are found. I would have expected that a population, based on only a few animals, that is, wityh high inbreeding, will...

As you have L397, you will keep the tank warm. And neither Apistgramma or Cleithacara maroni like it that warm. So I think you better refrain from keeping them in this tank. increasing the school is always a good idea Yes, I agree the bigger tetra school is a better idea, but fwiw,, both Apistogram...

I am wanting to get me some m blue to see if it makes a difference with them. Be carefull with the stuff. I use sand from the road builder. I once ordered a cubic meter, and it is still there. It did contain a lot of clay, but that was in 2004. What kind of sand you use, in most cases your fish will not mind. Dark is often better than light, if it is just as fine, and fine-ness is important. The grains ...

Re: C panda and S barbatus as roomies
I would not combine them
S barbatus likes their watter cold, and rapidly moving. 12 C in winter and 18 in summer would be what I expect them to prefer.
C panda is more a normal Corydoras, preferring 24 C and slowly moving water.

I would suggest keeping other fishes
Plecos need hiding places, and yes, yhose that eat wood excrete a lot of woodpowder. But eityher you appreciate that, or you let the filter do the job.
If you cannot stand the look, clearly you should keep other fish

Re: About filtration
Generally speaking, in the average filtered tank, around half the nitrogen cycling bacteria are living in the filter, the rest does not. Therefore, stopping the filter would reduce the cycling capacity to half, but in 8 hours the capacity can be back to what it was. Can, not will, because in many ci...

The analysis does seem to be sound. I think it was quite a nasty way to die.
Now you know what happened, and how to prevent this from happening again, I think the chamber can be used again for your research.

You did rule out any chances of having acquired the eggs twice? Than delaying hatching must be what happ...

Re: Please help Zamora with fungus
Fish which are sensitive to medicines are not necessarily sensitive towards ordinary salt.
Fungus, that is most kinds of underwater fungus, are quite sensitive towards salt.
Depending on the possibilities, I'd prefer trying a saltbath, with around 3 gram a liter of salt, NaCl.

The fishes Shovelnose mentioned are all small. Very small, and therefore it is fitting to keep them in a very small tank. If I'm informed correctly, in Germany it is forbidden to keep fish in a smaller tank, and I think they are right. As far as I know, Germany is the only country to heve regulated ...
