Re: ID Elegans group cories
Well if napoensis is the one that has the black blotch in the dorsal, im thinking all mine are napoensis as now fully colored up, they all have the dark thick blotch.

Re: C. Weitzmani Spawn
Hi there, how are the fry doing from the 2 spawnings? While the parents spawn no problem, the eggs either don't hatch or the fry that do hatch don't make it past 2 days old. Ive given the parents a break for now, gonna maybe try again with RO water in the future. My water is soft, but maybe not sof...

Re: C. Aeneus Spawn
These guys are doing good, eating adult foods, almost adult coloring fully in, a couple at an inch long now. I kept one little guy for myself, hes got a funny tail like he has extra tail fin rays, so keeping him so someone else doesn't breed him. He's really dark in colour too. Mom in the background...

Re: ID Elegans group cories
Hi, you will never find C. nanus (Suriname) or C. bilineatus (Bolivia) in ordinary pet shops, if you ever should be so lucky to find them in specialised shops they should be very much more expensive than other Corydoras . Both species are coming from countries from which there are no regular export...

Re: ID Elegans group cories
Wait till they color up and grow some, then reshare pics please. Cheers, Eric Okay! Sounds good! Now question, what age do they develop male or female colours? Do they change from fry colour to their respective coloring or do they all look female until maturity? I dont know much about this group fo...

Re: ID Elegans group cories
Alrighty so the blotchy ones with yellow fins are more likely napoensis. The other still good for elegans?

Re: ID Elegans group cories
Those look like slightly stressed Corydoras(ln5) elegans to me. Corydoras(ln5) nanus is from a remote area that is not routinely collected from, and Corydoras(ln5) bilineatus looks very different. But ugh, ID'ing some of the elegans group can be challenging. It does look like one or more fish of yo...

ID Elegans group cories
Got some cories sold as nanus, but to me they lack the black bar at the base of the dorsal that the photos of nanus here show.
Gotta get them home, will post photos of them during acclimation, but until then I'm curious whats the difference between these species?

Re: Spotted Corydoras ID?
Not looking to intentionally breed them, just for some companions. But even so I like to be sure everyone has some of their own around. But hey if theyre lucky and same species and they breed, then even more of them and easier to provide them to other people in my area lol But breeding this one isn'...

Re: White Spotted Pleco ID
Hi MissNoodle, Thanks for the update. IDK at what size these can be sexed reliably. But yes the males are more "spiny." And perhaps more helpful, males and females have distinctly different head shapes. Check out the photos on the CLOG page for this species and others in the same genus. C...

Re: Spotted Corydoras ID?
So in the end it wouldn't 100% matter just get a bit more of them and hope at least its a mix of BOTH. This guy is tricky haha... But then at least I could widen my search for both species and may have an easier time with one over the other. I may keep my cories in mixed groups, but I like to have s...

Re: Spotted Corydoras ID?
Same individual as above... but the markings change!! Agassizii or Ambiacus... The dorsal pattern fades and darkens with time, so variable :/ hes got the blue sheen that seems to be noted on the ambiacus page, tail seems longer and more elongated at the tips compared to the Agassizii... 20201001_162...

Re: White Spotted Pleco ID
Hes grown a little bit, hes about 12cm or 4 inches. I'm noticing hes a little more spikey on his cheeks than the rest of his body, would this be an indicator that he may be male? Re: Black paleatus fry?
Interesting. I've noticed that even within a species, there can be notable darkness differences from fry to fry, but these fade with age. Here's a dark trilineatus fry I had: https://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=41556 Cheers, Eric I definitely wanna see how these guys develop...

Black paleatus fry?
Ive had some more spawning in my cory groups... My paleatus eggs i collected, I got some albino and the "normal" ones were black. I'm referencing photos and the fry are much lighter in colour. In the photo here there is 1 aeneus fry on the left, the middle ones are the paleatus, and top ri...
