Re: Can fish experience sudden explosive growth rates?
i have gotten them to school but it really only was when someone gave me about 100 of them and they were in a large tank, they only time they truly schooled was at feeding time and when they sensed a threat in a really big (long) 18 lb siamese cat who would get up on this hind legs and go nose to no...

you said it, the large surge of high quality nutrients, condition that are orders of magnitude better ( no one tapping on the glass 200 times a day, so less stressed) just their natural response to excellent conditions

Re: Synodontis Granulosus
so yeah, unless the tank is the size of your living room, multiple grans is a bad thing. they do fine with S multi as tank mates but the multis i have are a really boisterous bunch, always all over the place and this would appear to keep the granulosus in his place. i see him sometimes, lights out o...

Re: Synodontis Granulosus
"Also, I must be missing something or... are not multiple granulosus necessarily bad together?" didn't say that . i said the only time i have seen them for sale it was a sole individual. 5 of them would be in excess of $1000.00 and unless i win the lottery that is just not going to happen....

Re: Synodontis Granulosus
i keep mine in a 150 with some others, mostly S multipunctatus
Just out of curiosity how much did they set up back?
Around here (US) about $200.00 each, so about 160 pounds sterling
I'v never seen anyone selling that many at one time, mostly they are a one off on a site called aquabid

generally tank back vinyl sheets are either put on with a mild soap and water solution or an adhesive stick .never heaard of oil and i don't understand how they expect that to work

Re: Does anyone use Marineland canister filters?
for what it is worth i bought a new 2217 for a neighbor who had a 75 gal and an ancient h.o.b. and there was no discernible difference in build or components between the new one and the last one i bought maybe 5 years ago. Jaeger heaters have been owned by a couple of companies, at one point due to ...

Re: Does anyone use Marineland canister filters?
amen to that. i have 9 eheims, 2- 2026, 1-2028 and the rest are 2217s. two of the 2217s were bought in the late nineties. i have had to replace the double tap valves in one, the other one is just the way it was when i bought it. keeping the impeller and hoses clean makes a big difference in flow rat...

If it's like the units i have used the charger should sense what level the battery (ies) is at and charge accordingly. Having to program the charger is new to me, but hey, why shouldn't it connect to a pc, everything else does. Might have something to do with the batteries, the ones i used were mari...

Re: The great UGF controversy...
there is no reason an undergravel filter won't work but it has to be cleaned periodically and the gravel, unless you vacuum periodically will develop "dead spots" that will result in the formation of suphur dioxide that is very toxic to fish. the junk that collects under the ugf plates in ...

sorry for your loss. it has happened to all of us. you try all you can, sometimes spending a lot of money in the process because at that point it just way more important that you save him (or her) and in spite of all you do it turns out bad anyway. what i do at that point is give everyone an extra w...

Re: Synodontis Petricola Sickness?
Darrel, thanks for your reply! I thought of that too.The tank is a 120 XH with two eheim - 2217, 1-2215 and two large sponge filters that are cranking. The 2 -2217 spray bars are positioned just under the surface so the water comes up and out and then splashes down as is the 2215 I know tall tanks h...

Synodontis Petricola Sickness?
i have a problem with some S. Petricola. At first it was one but then they all got into ...

keeping any live animal captive, to some degree, is cruel no matter how you try to justify it. concrete is not living no matter how you many words you move round and i can't see how that even came up :-J pulling them out of a stream to transport them 4000 miles away to "captive" breed them...
