Hi,
the eye shows some red colour, hence I am putting my money on Panaque nigrolineatus.
I think it will darken during the next time.
cheers, Daniel

They grow up to 25 cm TL roughly, never collected or seen a bigger one. In captivity it will probably not get bigger than 20 cm TL.

Hi
Pterygoplichthys punctatus indeed, I'd estimate it is around 4-5 weeks old and only recently imported from Peru.

Re: Trio Zebra Pleco. Can you help male/female ?
Hi,
the big one is a male. Not sure on the other two, because the angle is not showing the real proportions of the fish. However, the one next to the male could be a female. But a clear picture from above, and on a flat bottom will help to tell.

Re: 15" pleco ID ?
It is a rare fish in the trade, that's why. Comparable to S. immaculatus, which is grey but rare and expensive, or wild caught L 70. Another reason is that the exported fish are often rather large and therefore more expensive regarding the shipping costs.

Hi, from this picture it is difficult to tell if you obtained P. major or P. histrix. Are the caudal and dorsal fins patterned with white stripes? P. major is also considered to have a lower and longer head then P. histrix, but we'd need a lateral view to check on this. Personally, I am not too sure...

Re: Can you ID this Hypancistrus from the Orinoco region?
Yes, not only of course, but greyish parents have spotted offspring too, and the other way around.
Initially I thought my pair would be really, really old and had lost the colours, but when some more showed up I realized it was intraspecific variation.

Re: Can you ID this Hypancistrus from the Orinoco region?
Hi, this is H. lunaorum. From time to time specimens with this phenotype show up in the trade. I got some back in 2015 by Aqua-Amzon (Vianen, NL), shortly afterwards a pair was sold to a friend in Austria by another shop. The offspring have slightly less spots than the ones of typical lunaorum, but ...

Thanks! So Hypancistrus sp. L004, L005, L028, L073 (all those numbers seem to be the same undescribed species) Likely, yes. I find this species different looking from the options I suggested honestly (L201, L007, L029, LDA031, L026, etc.). Agree, but you also suggested four different genera and thi...

Hi,
1. Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps indeed
2. A Hypancistrus, check L 28 to compare with yours
3. Could be A. pirareta, they did come in last year after a long period of no exports. But it could also be the common Ancistrus sp., I can not rule out any based on this photo.

Hi
This is H. contradens, formerly also known as "L 201 Big Spot". The location would not help unfortunately, even if it was known, because all similar forms of this species share the same distribution range, which is rarely given more precisely than "Río Orinoco".

Hi Do you have a lateral picture? I tend to say L 333 based on this picture, but the angle might be misleading and it could turn out as L 340 in the end. The fish looks skinny, whatever it is, the eye is sunken, the belly too. Make sure it gets enough food and if possible try to snap a ventral pictu...

Re: Gulper Catfish Tank Mate Ideas?
That is a simple question with a short answer: None. They wont tolerate any other species living together with them. I've got a group, I tried a few predators that were supposed to be safe and I witnessed my batrachus several times throwing an eye on fish the same size of them. Interestingly they do...

Hi
I dont think this is A. macrophthalmus, the head morphology is wrong and so is the eye size.
Not entirely sure what this fish is though, it is similar to the common Ancistrus.

Hi, currently I am aware of around 30 cases where hybridization took place in Loricariidae. Hypancistrus, Pseudacanthicus and Panaqolus are the genera with most cases, but we also know of some in Peckoltia and Pterygoplichthys. The juveniles are fertile, and also breed with other hybrids resulting i...

Hi In the IG BSSW e.V. we have monthly meetings in several regional groups, mainly based in Germany. The club does not make any profit of these meetings, neither does the speaker. Hi Eric that's the so called "Platinum", a colourmorph of H. debilittera, it does not only occur/happen in Río Cinaruco, but also in the Río Meta basin. I would not rename it to mentioned name, because L 474 is sometimes still traded as H. sp. "Río Cinaruco" which might lead to c...
