Pterodoras sp.
Hi, I am cleaning up my "fishy pics" and found the followings. Some years ago I caught those ones in Bolivia, Santa Cruz, Río Palacio. But I am still not sure about the species. Pretty sure some kind of Pterodoras . And the second one an Oxydoras ( niger )? Don´t mind the written stuff on ...

Re: Pleco is national notice in bolivia
Hi, I know this small lake, but I haven´t fished there. I do not think it is an indigenous species, because plecos like this are normally caught in rivers, and not in small lakes. It might be indigenous in Bolivia and I still think so. A lot of plecos are known from Bolivia and even more are not kno...

Hi,
are there any more pics of the pleco? I am pretty sure, that I caught the same species, in the state of Cochabamba as well. Not at an elevation of 2000m, but it looks similar to this pleco. I´ll have a look for pictures, but now I am not at home.

Hi, I wouldn´t feed during this time. If your fish aren´t youngsters, they don´t care about one week without food. Especially if you don´t know if all filters and air pumps are working, the food is just an additional burden to the water. Lightly occupied tanks are a good possibility to avoid problem...

Re: Can anyone id this Otto/Paro (Up as Black Otto)
Hi,
the first one isn´t a P. spilosoma for sure. Looks like a fish we call Otocinclus sp. "negro", LG 2 or "small brown Otocinclus". Couldn´t find it in the cat-e log. I don´t think H. leucofrenatus either, this species has a longer body.

Hi,
L 114 is actually a Pseudacanthicus.
Please tell us some more details about the water, the tank, the food etc.
That way it is nearly impossible to diagnose the problem.

Hey,
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... es_id=1214
this one looks more like Microlepidogaster perforatus than like a Harttia. Don´t you think so?
For sure a member of Otothyrini and no Harttia.
best regards, Daniel

Hi,
I agree with Mats. The left one is P. pardalis and the right one P. gibbiceps.
But both aren´t albinos, cause they do not have red eyes!

it is possible, but you will have to live with some scratches. Getting more by time.
But Hypancitrus aren´t that bad.

Hi,
the big one is a Pterygoplichthys punctatus. P. weberi has less and bigger spots.
The small one is an Ancistrus for sure, and it really looks like L 309. But the pics aren´t sufficient to identify the fish to 100%.

Hi,
some kind of wormline Hypancistrus.
Maybe L 66 or L 399, but very difficult/nearly impossible to tell exactly.
It looks pretty thin. Pay attention to this and make sure he gets enough food.

Hi,
L 273a is not a valid number. The variation of those Pseudacanthicus is pretty high, as well as some have longer filaments and others don´t. Some seem to be more yellow, some gold and some even look orange/red. Might depend on the region they got caught.

Hi, why only keep one? Your tank is pretty small, not big enough for a lot of common plecos. But what about a group of smaller ones like Otocinclus or Parotocinclus? Especially if your tank is well planted those little species are awesome to watch at the whole day. http://www.l-welse.com/gallery/dis...

Hi,
most albino Corydoras are Corydoras aeneus and some Corydoras paleatus, but very little I think.
Females grow larger and get more plump than males. Care and reproduction is pretty easy. Don´t get bigger than around 6cm.

Hi,
you should put much more wood into the tank. You will need more hidding places than you´ve got now.
Some pics of fries can be found here.

Hi, 1. Baryancistrus beggini / L 239 2. It´s not Pseudolithoxus anthrax , this species has smaller dots and much more than the shown specimen. It is neither Ancistrus sp. "Puerto Ayacucho", cause of the very flat head. If I wouldn´t have known the origin, I´d say L 33 as well, but this spe...

Hi Jools, I'd like to understand the reasoning of putting this name to number - doesn't make sense to me. I´ll try to explain what made me do so: The colouration is identical, as well as the pattern. But thats not as important as a morphological characteristic: Schultz (1944) wrote, that Chaetostoma...

Hey,
you are totally right, but this characteristic is not suitable in this case. Cause the fish are too young. And even some of the real A. dolichopterus do loose their white parts in the caudal and dorsal fin. It depends on the breeding-clade.

Hi,
I count eight dorsal rays, except the first hard one, which does not count. The blue gleam on the fins is another characteristic of Ancistrus dolichopterus. So, I would say "Yes" as well.
