Maybe this is obvious, but... Make sure there's some wood in the tank. Most of the pleco's like to rasp wood for fibre, and they also, supposedly, disolve the lignin in the wood for nourishment. If there's no wood in the tank, the pleco will get indigestion. Best of luck, hope you can figure out wha...

If you have some surplus white "eating plates", they'll be useable, but the stuff made for the purpose that you buy in the LFS will be a couple of grades better because it's more porous (as some other posters mentioned). The glaze that is "dangerous" would mostly be the ones that...

Janne, do you leave driftwood in the tank even when you are starving the pl*cos? I think this type of bloat is temperature related like if you feed snakes when they are cold - they will not be able to metabolise the food and it will rot in their stomach. I think I have heard that you are not suppos...

Are these pictures clear enough to do I have to go pl*co-hunting again? Nes. I'm not sure if the problem is the sharpness of the pictures or just that someone who knows are not willing to write an answer. To me, it doesn't make a difference, because I can't tell the difference anyways. But I'm sure...

Re: help

who can tell me what's kind of this pl*co Looks like a Panaque Nigrolineatus to me. Here's pictures (thumbnails) of all Panaque: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/loricari/panaque/g_thumbs.htm The 'Tapajos' variety looks very similar to yours. I'm a beginner at this, and I only recognise it beca...

And MatsP continues the reputation that the U.S. is an overly litigious society... ...Oh wait, he's right, it is! :D Low voltage LED Diodes are easier and safer to wire up. Perhaps look into them instead. The behavior is normal and I agree with Madame X that your fish will begin to recognize you. T...

Yes, I know alot of people use forks to weight down the food but I'm not sure how I feel about having my tanks covered in forks  (inevitable as I don't enjoy getting myself wet up to the shoulder & only clean out my tanks once a week :)) Nes. Since I don't enjoy having silverware sitting a...

Hi! Yeap it is a "normal" behaviour... it really depends, some comes out within a day other take years and never show a bit of their fins...that is especially true during day time when the lights are on... When the lights are out the usually don't have much problem exploring your tank. yo...

Re: Behaviour a little off

I've noticed my pl*co 'Charlie' has been alot more active recently, this is strange because he usually spend all day in his caves, only comming out at night but recently he's been spending alot of time on the glass & even browsing the tank for food in the middle of the day :? I recently added a...

Very sorry to hear about your loss. Assuming that the actual reason for the loss was the unheated tank at the show, wouldn't an obvious solution be to get a small heater to keep the small tank at the correct temperature (at least roughly)? Of course, it could be that the relationship between the dea...

Typo on Synodontis brichardi

I think it's supposed to be 6-8 pH, and 22-27 degrees C, and not 6-8 degrees C and 22-27 pH. A pH of 22 would be rather difficult to get in water solution. I think Sodium Hydroxide in water solution gets to about 15 when it's really concentrated, and that's about as high pH as you can get... -- Mats
