Mix in up to 50% RO or RO/DI water. Rhis may also lower thepH depending on your other parameters.

Re: Bought Pleco at LPS - What kind is it?
I think your best bet may be an H tank and the right med. If this is a wild caught fish which is not all that long in country, I would bet on internal parasites and or worms. It looked a bit sunken in the pic but I have old eyes. But if it looks obviously underweight and even worse, I would suggest ...

Re: Flubendazole in food
I am going to disagree with much of what has been posted on this thread and do so based on personal experience. Firstly, you can easily find flubendazole in the US from Dr Charles Harrison. I will link you below. Secondly, while dissolving the powder in water is not easy, it is also not impossible. ...

Re: Starting a breeding rack for plecos
Most of my pleco tanks are bare bottom, but none of them has any paint. A nymber of them are on frame type statnds, that is they only support the perimeter of the tank. I have never painted the bottom as my set-up offers me the opportunity to be able to observe the tank from below. I have found this...

Thanks all for the info. I had looked on the convention site a bunch of times and kept being directed to the PVAS site. Nice to see the info is now up. I am currently downsizing and am about to have not only fish to sell, but tanks, lids hardware etc. Most of these tanks are between 5.5 gals and 50 ...

Re: 2014 All Aquarium Catfish Convention
Can anybody tell me if room selling is done at the Convention and if so does one have to book a special set of rooms where room selling is allowed? I went to the PVAS site to see what I could learn, but they require one join to read and there is no reason for me to join.

Just a quick couple of observations re sand. I resisted using sand for close to a decade before I gave in. I quickly discovered two things when I decided to try sand to use with Altum angels. The first is all sands do not look alike in the water. But this is a matter of personal taste so one person'...

I am not sure if this is the right place for posting this, but i could not find a better place. I read a thread on another site by a pleco keeper in Australia whose "peppermint" bristlenose had resumed spawning. So I headed on over here to look up information on this fish. I was reading th...

New Fry- Maybe L236
About 18 months ago Jools started a thread about his L173 he got in Finland. These fish originated with Glaser and came to Jools through another member here, HaakonH. He mentioned that at the same time Jools as well as Eric B. from the states bought both the 173 and the 236 from him. In the summer o...

I have at least 8 zebras I got in Apr 06 that are still with me. They were several years old when I got them. I know of a breeder in Michigan who has a spawn from his male zebra at over 20 years of age. They live a long time. Hypancistrus like it warm and seem to live a long time. My breeder male lf...

I am curious about one issue here with airstones. Doesn't the temperature of the air going into the pump determine the temperature of the air being released into the tank. If the ambient temperature is 90F would this not mean one is pumping 90 degree air into the water. Now if the water itself is le...

Re: Snail Eating Plecos ?
My experience is that zebra plecos will consume snails. I have a variety of tanks with plecos and they all have snails, but there are always fewer in the zebra tanks and I spot most of them as high up on the glass as they can get. I also find some number of empty shells when doing tank maint. On the...

It is not true that nitrification by bacteria does not take place in very acid waters. While such waters do inhibit many bacteria, the ones responsible for nitrification are not ones that becomes absent in such water. I would point folks to the following research on this topic. Changes in ammonia ox...

As long as you do not disturb the cave it should be fine to change water. I have changed water with couples, dad and eggs or dad on wigglers with no issues. I have moved caves with dad on eggs or wigglers and lost them.

The idea of line breeding zebras to fix traits has always made me laugh. Given the amount of time if takes to get them to spawning age size and then the small size of spawns, line breeding would be a lifetime project. How many similar specimens like the one in this thread have been reported? How har...

There is no way to prove a negative. So that side of things will always be open to contention. My point is this. If I go back and read old threads on this site, there is great deal of disparagement about the existence of 236 or 173 and we may as well throw in 250 as well. Go back and look and your w...
