can't you get some gyuppies or so? producing tiny little fish, small enough to be eaten by them?

You could also tyr convict cichlids, in a seperate tank, siphoning the fry as soon as it's swimming

Personlly, I'm very found of internal filtration. However, I don't refer to any commercial product, but to custom made glass filters: 5-10 % of the whole tank content. They are filled with the blue foam, several (5 - 7) layers of 5 cm These I hardly clean at al. I replace one layer every 3 or 4 mont...

The fish as depicted is Gyroncheilus ammonerie, NOT a catfish, but related to carp.

When young, they do eat algea, but after a while - around 3 inches, they will start to prefer a more carnivorous diet. They might even disturb larger fishes, such as discus

It's obvious, but still it's sometimes good to state the obvious, as a reminder. in this case, I will need the room (the whole tank) for 2 more litters - >30 each, and the tank will be needed in winter for fish currently outdoors (all from Uruguay). I don't think it's a good idea to remouve the new ...

Breeding Rhineloricaria sp Charaguata

last year I received 9 rhineloricaria, from Uruguay. I think, but I'm not certain, Charaguata refers to their habitat. during the winter I kept them cool, I got eggs and now i have approx 20 joung ones, 4 cm on average. When can I remouve them from their tank? I wonder especially, because I have 2 m...

Perhaps it's just the seemingly greenness of the grass?

I did collect my microglanis myself - in the Aroyo tropa vieja near the town Salinas (30 km from Montevideo), Canelones, Uruguay. Most likely it is another species, but this arroyo is quite dirty, dark and unplanted. Apart from the soil, and some stones also some organic matter was around (Uruguay d...

@ Matt,

I'm afraid I kept it too short - if a fish needs to hide, hiding places must be provided.

Tose hiding places will have to be constructed of something, and therefore replace water

I think Platydoras gets far too big - mine are 20 cm, 5 cm from left to right, and 3 - 4 cm from top to bottom (depending on when they ate last) without measuring the fins As they need to hide - and thus need shelter, I'd say your tank is large enough for a Platydoras - if you take out all oth...

Nice idea - as the walls are thin, the caves do their job, without pushing out too muich water.

However, PVC is one of the very few plastic which do not float. Most other plastics would require the use of some rocks to keep te cave on the bottom
