Corydora spilurus

Hi, this species belongs to acutus group, lineage 1. In the phylogeny of Alexandrou et al. 2010 the tissue samples used belonged to CW138 and not to C. spilurus , that's why this species ended up in the wrong lineage. I have written an article on this topic in the BSSW report 3-2017 "Über die I...

Re: Corydoras(ln9) sp. (Cw063)?

Hi, do you have any information from where those were imported, together with the C. similis ? I can definitely confirm C. similis and for the others CW063 could be an option. However, the specimen on the original picture has an even smaller caudal spot that is more elongated and a much more pronoun...

Re: Corydoras (ln5) id

Hi, I would tentatively agree with CW029. I have not kept those myself, so I only know pictures of adult specimen and not too much about variability etc. However, the dark broad stripe going from the eye towards the dorsal fin spine insertion seems to me a good diagnostic feature of this form which ...

Hypostomus commersoni

Hi,

pictures 6-9 on the species page are in fact Hypostomus spiniger. It's rather outside distribution range for H. commersoni and the last picture with the adult is without any doubt not H. commersoni.

Hi,

on the species page the first 6 pictures are not H. albopunctatus (dorsal spine much too long).
Picture 7 is difficult to judge, picture 8 looks ok.

Hi, also maximum length needs a correction, afaik it is rather in the range of 25 cm (SL) which is the largest size mentioned in Weber et al. 2012 (based on 158 specimen) and also corresponds to my experience from Suriname. As there are lots of similar species from various locations that have been considered to belong to this species and also the populations in Suriname show quite a high variability in pattern it's difficult to identify them with pictures alone....

Re: Corydoras julii or hybrid ?

Hi,

I don't see anything that would suspect me of this being a hybrid. However, it is most likely C. trilineatus which is commonly sold as C. julii.
The albinos are most likely C. schultzei / C. aeneus, a sharper picture especially of the dorsal fin could confirm this.

Hi, Corydoras sp. "San Juan" is to my knowledge only a trade name (like deckeri cory in Colombia) not used for only one species or form but a mix. No one in Iquitos will keep those separated acc. to locations and when those are stressed or juveniles they look probably anyway same. This is ...

Hi,

I would tentatively also say C. napoensis and C. elegans.
CW008 looks also similar but to my experience this is unlike many other species in the elegans group quite uniform in colouration and has a more regular striped pattern.

C. nanus can be excluded by minimum 100% ;-).

Hi, you will never find C. nanus (Suriname) or C. bilineatus (Bolivia) in ordinary pet shops, if you ever should be so lucky to find them in specialised shops they should be very much more expensive than other Corydoras . Both species are coming from countries from which there are no regular exports...
