Re: INH: Identification for my new "Zebra Pleco"
Hi Do you have a lateral picture? I tend to say L 333 based on this picture, but the angle might be misleading and it could turn out as L 340 in the end. The fish looks skinny, whatever it is, the eye is sunken, the belly too. Make sure it gets enough food and if possible try to snap a ventral pictu...

Hi
the big eye and the steep head morphology are leading towards Hypancistrus furunculus.

Re: Gulper Catfish Tank Mate Ideas?
That is a simple question with a short answer: None. They wont tolerate any other species living together with them. I've got a group, I tried a few predators that were supposed to be safe and I witnessed my batrachus several times throwing an eye on fish the same size of them. Interestingly they do...

Hi
I dont think this is A. macrophthalmus, the head morphology is wrong and so is the eye size.
Not entirely sure what this fish is though, it is similar to the common Ancistrus.

Hi, currently I am aware of around 30 cases where hybridization took place in Loricariidae. Hypancistrus, Pseudacanthicus and Panaqolus are the genera with most cases, but we also know of some in Peckoltia and Pterygoplichthys. The juveniles are fertile, and also breed with other hybrids resulting i...

Re: What's the harm with posting speaker's presentations online?
Hi In the IG BSSW e.V. we have monthly meetings in several regional groups, mainly based in Germany. The club does not make any profit of these meetings, neither does the speaker. The latter is paid for his gasoline, beer, some food, his expenses basically. We usually start the meetings at around 7p...

Hi Eric that's the so called "Platinum", a colourmorph of H. debilittera, it does not only occur/happen in Río Cinaruco, but also in the Río Meta basin. I would not rename it to mentioned name, because L 474 is sometimes still traded as H. sp. "Río Cinaruco" which might lead to c...

In a 180 gallon with 6X adult yellow chubby plecos can I add 6X adult L204 Flash plecos? Yes, no problem at all. Has anyone ever keep L397 together with L204? Yes, and it works fine, but considering the potential risk of hybrids it's not what I would recommend to somebody else....even though it wou...

Re: Couple new super red ancistrus
Hi Eric When I used to breed them 4-5 years ago, the brown markings normally showed up when the fish reached a size of 3-4cm. Obviously, the Czech also breed the pure strain, but in most cases you get the one which develops brown markings. I once got a group of the czech ones without brown markings,...

Re: Orange Zebra Otocinclus Hypoptopoma sp. Peru “Orange”
Heho Orange Zebra Otocinclus and Hypoptopoma sp. "Orange" are actually the same fish as Nannoptopoma sp. "Robocop". The correct genus of the three is Nannoptopoma, the most common trading name for the species is sp. "Peru" or sp. "Orange". However, they are no...

Hi This is not caused by some hours of shipping. I have seen several Typhoons lately that were in a bad shape and my guess is, that they are not kept well in Brazil already. Obviously I cant tell for sure, because sadly I'm not there, but my impression is that tons of Typhoons are being shipped in t...

Hi
check the Cat-eLog for Otothyropsis piribebuy, a great and small species, which easily reproduces.
One specimen though is indeed an Otocinclus, likely macrospilus.
cheers

Re: Trichomycterus punctatus info
Hi there First of all I'd try to find out if your fish really are what you bought them as. Many Trichomycterus and Ituglanis are sold as "punctatus", but only few are. The identification is not easy though if the origin is unknown. However, for most species it's important to close every ga...

Heho
How where Johnnys specimens identified? They look exactly like my old L 351.
I'd agree that L 351 is likely the same as nocturnus, but I was not able to proof it yet with the material I have available to compare. Would be an interesting topic to discuss.

Re: Which pleco is this
Hi Agree with Eric, it is either pardalis or disjunctivus. Even if you don't manage to get a good picture, have a look at the pattern on the abdomen. Is it spotted or covered in blotches, it's pardalis, is it wormlined it's more likely disjunctivus. Still...., there are pardalis around with a wormli...

Re: Gibbiceps?
Hi, this is either a pardalis or disjunctivus, tending to say pardalis though. Also think this is a great example of how easy the "groups" in Pterygoplichthys are to distinguish from each other. Pattern and colouration don't help at all in this case, because they are not typical for either...

Re: Possible True L144
Hi It can not be the true L 144, since this variety is linked to the area it was found in first. Also it is pretty much impossible that it is the same species as L 144. There is a pattern visible on the fins, that makes me assume they will not keep this colour but turn into brownish specimens with t...

Re: Can you ID these Plecs
Hi Check L 66 and L 333 for comparison, surely a Hypancistrus and one of the wormline-complex too. They are similar in their requirements, so the actual variety/l-number isn't a big matter. Make sure they are not getting mixed with any other "similar looking" or "surely the same speci...
