How long quarrantine plecos; prophalyctic drug treatment?
As many of us have sadly heard from ElTofi, there seems to be an illness that wipes out loricadiaes very quickly, and with no cure. My recollection is that ElTofi said that his plecos were fine until week 5, when they started to succumb to this malady. So how long should we quarrantine our prized pl...

If you're taking an "unchanged" individual out for the picture, can you also take pictures of the mouth and vent (for consistency in comparison)?

Re: what pl*co is this??? And what's it worth???
To me, it looks like an L333 (yellow kinger tiger pleco). I've never seen one in person. At thatfishplace, it's priced at $60: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/246986/product.web Another possibility is that it sort of looks like an L204 (flash/emperor pleco). Are the scrawls/lines yellow or whit...

Can't answer your question- but nice tank! Is there a cover for it? Aren't you worried that your fish may jump out?

Re: Sick L-114s
I just got back from my local Petco. I bought both Melafix and Pimafix. The latter is for fungus (someone on another forum suggested Melafix, so I bought both); unfortunately they did not have metranizadole or API general cure. The Petco person said that it should be ok to use both of them at the sa...

Sick L-114s
Hi- I woke up this morning and saw that 2 of my new L-114s I got on 1/14 (overnight shipped) seem to have some kind of fungal growth on them (see base of tail). One of the ones that doesn't seem to be doing well seems to be breathing quite heavy (lesser fungal growth, though seems paler in color tha...

L-114 Group
Greetings all- The previous posts on L007 vs 241 suggested getting groups of the same plecs. I have been fortunate to get a group of four L-114s, SL 2-2.5" (I can get a few more), which will go in to my 75 gallon tank after quarantine (the other fish in the 75 gallon tank will be Congo tetras, ...

Quarrantine it if you already bought the GN
Just my $0.02 on what was already said before (just replied to you on plecofanatics): If you already bought the GN, you should put it in a tank by itself for a few weeks at least to quarantine it. It may have diseases or parasites, and you don't want to introduce any diseases/parasites to your other...

Tom,
That's a beauty of a tank. What plants do you have in there? What type of lighting do you use? Do you use a CO2 injector? Any other specs you can share?

Re: help with new acquisitions
Sorry about your loss of the L204. At least the good news is many of these fish come from Peru, where there is no import ban (like many brazillian plecos like the zebra pleco), so you can hopefully easily find a replacement. I have a bunch of L204s. In addition to bogwood, mine love boiled zuchinni ...

Re: Sultan pl*co favorite food comparison?
I'll have to try yams. I forgot to mention that it appears that there is a preference for boiled veggies rather than fresh. Also, mine like blackworms, though I do not try to feed them too often as I'm worried about bloat. Though L264s are primarily carnivorous, the advice that I've gleamed from pos...

Re: Recommendation for 40L planted
My L52 and L204 seem to stay away from my plants (my L264 is another story). They are attractive and stay within your requested size range. The only issue though is that they prefer warmer water. I keep mine at 78 degrees F; the catelog temperature range lists a minimum of 75 degrees.

Re: Sultan pl*co favorite food comparison?
My sultan L264 appears to also prefer hikari wafers over other food. I've fed Tetra wafers with the algae center, and before my addition of L204s (emperor flash), only the outer "non-veggie core" would be eaten. I guess preference for hikari wafers should not be a surprise considering the ...

If it is L-114, it's really big. And the price is pretty big, even at $1,000 canadian $ (obo).

Re: Looking for Sterbai in the U.S.
Hopefully you'll get your sterbais to breed. I think they're very easy to breed. I feed mine pellets, flake and blackworms. A month a go, I came home from work and saw eggs along the top of the aquarium, opposite of the HOT filter. I didn't have a breeding tank set up, and I thought the eggs were in...

Re: where did plecofanatics go?
Yah, I get a page that list sports websites. Is "pleco" synonymous with some sports activity in Britain, Australia, or some other english speaking country. In the USA, to the best of my knowledge, there is no connetion between sports and pleco. Maybe just a stereotype that sports funs are ...
