Re: ID Corydoras. please

Hi, when I look here in Germany in the stores I would estimate that you can find about ten different species labelled as C. agassizii. Who knows how many of these are the really C. agassizii ?! I don't really think that your corys are C. agassizii. When it comes to this species complex it is very di...

Hi,

young A. ranunculus do have spots, but I don't know at which size/age they lose them.

Re: Which Species Do You Recommend?

Hi, the temperature range that you indicate for "summer" (it's more dry and rainy season, C. adolfoi originates pretty much exactly from the equator) is definitely not the high end. There are at least temperatures of 28 °C in the biotopes (Rio Miuá, in november). For breeding I would recom...

Re: pleco with corys?

Hi, in general it is possible to keep corys with plecos, but you should have a closer look on the temperature requirements. Bronze and peppered cory should not be kept too warm, for some plecos like hypancistrus spp. this would be at/below the lower end. Sometimes it happens that corys hide in caves...

Re: Cory, looks like metae but isn't

Hi,

as you've said it was imported from Colombia, this is another evidence for C. simulatus.
It looks also to me closer to C. simulatus. I would expect the barring in the caudal fin to disappear when it's fully grown.

Hi, I don't think that it's C. septentrionalis. I don't see the third rictal barbel that this species has. In confirmed pictures of C. septentrionalis I always see light markings (faint stripes) in the caudal fin that seem to miss in your specimen. On your pictures the nose looks not acute enough to...

I don't think that this is C 120, the blotch in the dorsal does not seem to be right (too roundish).
Moreover, the origin of C 120 is Peru (Madre de Dios)...

Re: New cafishes from the Rio Taruma, ID if possible.

Hi, both of the mentionned cory species are known to be very variable in colouration and I have never heard of the lines being a decisive characteristic for the identification or distinction of these two species. From pictures they are hard or impossible to tell apart. If I am not mistaken the Rio T...

Re: Corydoras trilineatus confirmation...

Hi, the vermiculated markings are not a definite criterion for identification, just a hint. There are C. trilineatus without these and populations of C. julii showing this pattern. If you want to be 100% sure you need the origins of the WC. Alternatively you could try to find out the breeder and ask...

Re: Can anyone id this Otto/Paro (Up as Black Otto)

Hi, as Daniel (Acanthicus) already pointed out this is definitely no Parotocinclus, it is LG 2. This fish shouldn't have an adipose fin (the quality of the pics is not good enough to see) which Parotocinclus does have. H. leucofrenatus has clear markings in the head that should be visible in the thi...

Re: combining SA species

Hi, most of the cory species are not really compatible to hypancistrus species when it comes to temperature. Around 26 °C is at the upper limit for many corys while for hypancistrus it's on the lower end. For breeding them you might want to raise the temperature for the hypancistrus and lower it for...

Hi, Could this be Corydoras Sp. C156 or maybe Corydoras Blochi? I think you meant C 155, this is indeed an option. Could also be C. vittatus (more likely than C. blochi), do you have a catching location ? I'm not sure, but I think C 155 is more often in the trade than C. vittatus at the moment. Chee...

Hello Ian, thanks for your reply. At the moment I don't have the option to move all the fish of this tank in different ones. I didn't see heavy egg predation but some got lost and I don't think that the eggs will remain until they hatch, because there are also some other corydoras, ancistrus and hyp...

yes you're right, 1 ppm = 0,056 °KH and not the other way round.
This makes a bit more than 100ppm.

Re: Hatching problems with C. gossei

Hello Mats, not really, I think around KH 6, which is 0,6-0,7 ppm CACO3 or ~5 °e. I raise most of the species just in plain tap water which is quite ok here. With none of the other species (CW021, C. metae, C.oiapoquensis, C. boesemani, C. sterbai,...) I have ever had this kind of problem. Seldomly ...

Hatching problems with C. gossei

Hi, some days ago I had my first spawn of C. gossei, about 90% of the ~30 eggs were fertilized. I put the eggs into a vessel (same temperature as tank water) into pure tap water treated with blue water conditioner (should contain a bit methylene blue) and I dipped two cones for some seconds until th...

Re: ID Please. is this C. Leopardus?

Hi,

definitely two different species (or more), the long-snouted could be C. leopardus or C. gomezi (the one left of the big one also).
The short-snouted could be C. trilineatus or C. julii (or C. acrensis) depending on the catching location.

Hi,

the cory definitely looks like C 155 (Rio Purus), but could also be C. vittatus (Rio Branco, north of Rio Negro).
Should be either of the two depending on the catching location.

Hi Birger, could very well be L 71/L 181/L 249. It is difficult to see in the pic, but it seems that it has 8 soft fin rays in the dorsal which would rule out most of the other ancistrus. Hi, The cory looks like the "normal" form of Corydoras schultzei that was also my first thought, but C. schultzei is usually imported from Colombia. I don't know the distribution of this species but I think not only because of the yellow fins the depicted cory is only similar to C. schultz...

Hi Birger,

P. maccus should have more stripes on the pectoral fins.

The second one could be Hemiloricaria lanceolata.

Hi Birger, what is the size of them ? Are the females much larger than the males ? I would also tend towards LG 2. The body and fin markings fit better to LG 2 than to Hisonutus spp. and the rear body seems a bit too short for Hisonotus. On the other hand the snout does not exactly look like the one...

Hi, this is definitely Parotocinclus sp. What is often refered to as P. spilosoma is as far as I know not really proven to be that species. The clear marks (spots and partly lines) are not mentionned in the scientific description of that species although the location of the holotype. It is therefore...
