Re: Compatability: Brochis Splendens and Rainbows
I've got a 90 gallon with lacustris, praecox rainbows and a group of 9 brochis and everyone gets along fine.
when I do lights out I always throw in a pinch for the brochis and they are growing nicely

Re: Do I need a heater guard?
you will have to be careful with a heater guard, the manufacturers of heaters assume that water can flow freely around the unit, the guard is going to restrict this to some degree. when I did water changes I would always direct a little of the stream to flush out the heater guard and rinse out mulm,...

Re: Gap between tank and stand
if you are that concerned about this stand, and should be with putting 1200 to 1400 lbs on it, why not just build a stand out of cinder blocks (again, it's then 4 corners that need to be supported primarily) and then make an enclosure to fit? I used to use cinder blocks and 2x8s for the stand and th...

Re: Gap between tank and stand
tanks are primarily supported by the 4 corners. most metal stands have virtually no support in the middle. if it's a 120 it's probably 60x18? I have a couple and they are braced in the middle as these are tall heavy tanks. the easiest thing to do is to put some Styrofoam (not sure what that is calle...

Re: synos and nitrofurazone
Columnaris is a gram negative aerobic bacterial infection, kind of looks like fungus. it's often found in the fish's gills. It's pretty difficult to treat once is has a hold. It's more the rest of the fish in the tank I'm concerning myself with. I'm not sure what disease you have in mind

synos and nitrofurazone
Hello everyone, I have a question regarding medication in a tank with some syno cats in it. One of the fish in the tank has what is clearly columnaris and I would like to treat the whole tank( I work in a big hotel and this tank is filled with fish no one wanted, they know I have fish and I can't sa...

Re: Dead fish
I store them in the freezer and then when the weather warms up I bury then in the back yard. why not I figure. They are pets, not in the same class with cats and dogs maybe but still members of the household. how could I do any less?

Re: Synodontis polli
Hi, I would be interested in some also. I have one S polli but would like a few more but I'm guessing it might be better to wait until warmer weather unless you know how to pack and ship fish. I wish you lived closer, it would make a great road trip (not from Boston Ma. however) If you do know how t...

Have to say I would go with eheim classic. I have 14 of them and I have had 0 problems. fluvals work okay but tend to need replacement parts occasionally (at least the 04 and 05 lines, can't speak about the 06's as I don't have one.) Eheims are cheaper than fluvals over here in the states, especiall...

Drs Foster and Smith lists them as a stock item (although currently out of) if this is the fish you are looking for: Bagrichthys hypselopterus. you can set up so you will get an email if they receive some. hope this helps

i have a 120 gallon tank with a colony of s petriola and some m praecox rainbows, even though i quaratined the rainbows the seller has advised me that there seems to be a problem with anchor worm and or other parasites. although i don't see anything that would point to anchor worm the rainbowfish do...

the only other fish in the tank are 8 brochis sp, 2 - 5 inch s ocellifer, 2 - 5 inch s. soloni and a large school of Bosemani Rainbows. i don't suspect either species of being the problem.

multupunctatus "White"problem
i have 3 (of 9) s multipunctatus that are having a white "area" problem toward the middle of the fish. my thinking is that they scraped against some driftwood and lost their outer layer of scales? it is definitely not fungus and doesn't seem to be affecting them otherwise, maybe they are a...

Re: Stress, snails and spawning..Grrr.
probably you are seeing more because of the low light right now, they are a lot more active at night. i think that many might be an indicaton of overfeeding -they have to be eating something.. i had an unfortunate experience with an attempt to eradicate them chemically. if they all die off at once i...

i'm going to catch (attempt to, at least) and hopefully photograph one of them tonight, but you're exactly right it looks like the "skin" under the normal color pattern, will it fill in eventually? (not that i won't love them anyway:)

Re: Multipunctatus white spots
i will try to get pictures, the white areas are rectanguler shaped, running horizontally along the catfish's body, it looks like the scales have been rubbed off and the white underneath is exposed. it's not fluffy white like fungus, just white.

Multipunctatus white spots
i have 7 multipunctatus in a a 120 gal tank with some rainbowfish and two of the multis have developed white patches on their sides. they have been there for awhile, but seem to be getting worse in the last couple of weeks. i am guessing that they came from collisions with driftwood in the tank. i o...

I recently aquired (Fri afternoon) 5 juvenile S soloni, they were put into a 72 gal tank that already had 5 soloni (about one year old and doing well) and 9 Small rainbowfish (Bosemani). they seem to be having a diffucult time settling in. they spend most of their time huddling behind something vert...

p.s for those who are thinking that i am getting my continents confused by putting synodontis in the same tank with green tiger barbs, all that i can say is that it works. The tank is planted, my water is prety close to neutral, not too hard, and both fish get along well. the barbs add enough of a d...

i have a 120 gal tank with a school of 20 s. multipunctatus. 3 of them have collided with driftwood at some point and now have developed a fungus infection. you're right, they are almost 12.5 inches, but that includes an imposing tail, and if i am correct, SL is from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail, which would be around 9 inches as it's difficult to get them to sit still; i still have high hopes that they will make it into the catfish hall ...
