Re: Would Centromochlus orca be an acceptable tank mate for Hypancistrus zebra?
I have actually had the opposite experience. For me, the woodcats would get into the cave first. And then the plecos would come in afterwards and strip their skin off. The woodcats couldn't escape as the pleco was blocking the exit. And the posterior of the woodcat is defenseless without any spines ...

I am right there with you guys. I have had my group since October. I have big fat females and watch the males chasing them but so far no luck.

Re: The Most Expensive Fish You've Lost
Well sad to say that I can add to this list. Over the weekend, due to a heater malfunction, I lost my tank of zebra plecos. 6 fish @$200 ea. I had only gotten one spawn out of them but I had already given the babies away. What's most unfortunate is that they were only a few weeks away from being mov...

It's an L002. Jools is right.
The picture is at an odd angle which is distorting the shape of the fish. Dekeyseria do not have that pattern on the face at all.

Re: Tiny white worms in water column after water change
They are free living nematodes. I see them in my shrimp tanks regularly. Small fish will eat them often. But shrimp and larger fish seem to ignore them. They are harmless. Vacuuming the substrate during water changes will help remove them and their food supply which will reduce the population to unn...

You seem to be very misinformed about how legalese works. The regulation went into effect when it was published in 2014. The implementation date of May for the end of catchments, and the June 30th date of end of export are within the regulation. Nobody is debating that they are not legal to export n...

Re: Can You Help Sex My Plecos?
There are probably several different strains of common bristlenose out there. But the TR strains I have seen here in the U.S. most females have small bristles around the perimeter of the snout. The Catelog has a really good picture of a pair of albinos that you can clearly see the bristles on the fe...

Re: Can You Help Sex My Plecos?
I agree with Eric. These are all females. Female BN will often have small bristles that run around the perimeter of the snout. But they will not have bristles that run up the snout from the tip to the eyes. Only males will have that. At this size there should be some bristles higher on the head if t...

? You said exactly the same thing I said. They are still allowed until June 30, 2018. After which they are banned. The market is responding to an anticipated shortage and prices are going up. If there have been modifications to the law I have not seen them. But please feel free to research and post ...

You are kidding right? Taking the first paragraph out of context and not including the second paragraph is extremely misleading. Yes they are legal to export now. But that ends June 30, 2018 (6.5 months from now). So it is entirely reasonable that the prices would go up for a highly desirable fish t...

Bio Piracy is the smuggling of animal/plants from one country to another. The most famous example of which is the taking of 70,000 rubber plant seeds from Brazil by the Englishman Sir Henry Wickham in 1876. At the time, Brazil had a monopoly on the production of natural rubber (synthetic rubber had ...

The second photo is likely a females or young immature male. But judging by their size relative to the plants, the possibility of being immature males is unlikely. Females may often have short bristles that extend around the perimeter of the snout parallel to the plane of the bottom of the fish. Mal...

Re: LF advice: pleco and cory breeding rack
I would second the individual tanks. I have used central systems often in the past. But I find that fish rarely bred in them and they were best used for growing out juveniles or for holding fish that weren't ready for spawning yet. For my breeding tanks, I use individual filtration (mostly Poret mat...

Lead has been used in aquariums for years without any apparent effects on fish. Everything from lead fishing weights used to hold food down, lead plant anchors, and bendable bubble wands all are lead or lead alloys. I have been using lead plant anchors to hold veggies down for decades. Never had any...
