Re: Sexing Clown Panaque?

You mentioned a total of three fish. I agree with Sandor that the purported female may be Chaetostoma. But as far as I can see, the two fish in the last photo are both Panaqolus, not Chaetostoma Better photos of all three fish would help a lot.

Re: What kind of plec is this given its shape and size

If there was a giant pleco in that lake, wouldn't the lake have been filled in by now (despite its great size and depth) by pleco poop? Think about how fast our plecos foul and fill their tanks. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum.

Re: not able to access main site

okaY, I was wrong about the cause. I just saw the cat-elog image updates in the right column. And yet I can still get the error, so it's still not fixed; but I don't know why.

Re: not able to access main site

Sorry to disappoint, but it just happened to me on the home page again. It's intermittent; sometimes the homepage loads and sometimes it won't. I suspect the error message appears on the left side of the page when cat-elog image updates should appear on the right. I think this because other right co...

Hi JodiJ, Welcome to PlanetCatfish. Twotankamin's advice is sound. If you don't have real water testing abilities at home, contact your LFS (local fish stores). Many stores will test your water for free. But before you take your water in to the store, ask them how they want you to collect it, bag it...

Re: Can anyone tell me what the pleco is in the planetcatfish logo/banner (top left)?

There was an old thread on which the species names of these images were provided. I scanned the thread and found names for lots of the pictures, but not this specific one (other than simply a Hypancistrus). Here are the links to three of the posts in that thread which specifically name names, but ag...

While I don't disagree with either of your posts, I'd urge caution about judging this article before actually reading the entire text. Minor quirky behavior of on-mouse-over CLOG images - not flipping left

Hi Jools, This is probably a trivial behavioral irregularity I've noticed when looking at the pop-up CLOG images of a species when viewed from the Cat-eLog "Recent Species Updates" page. Some images are not properly oriented, such that the fish faces right instead of left. Here are two exa...

its a "fluval edge pre filter sponge"... this is a fluval 206 entry level canister filter ... Even though this foam piece was made by fluval, it was not made for this type of filter- was designed for a totally different filter. I understand your point. I'm not familiar with this Fluval ca...

Re: Need help saving abused emaciated 15 yr old iridescent shark catfish!!! HELP!

Hi Mostlyfairy, I'm glad to hear that the biological filtration has finally settled in. Honestly, 31 days is not too long to wait for a new aquarium to establish itself fully, so that doesn't seem unusually long to me. Yes, you should expect the foam pre-filter to cut back on some of the water flow,...
