Re: please help me some questions

As long as they are active, fat and not breathing rapidly you'll see it. They'll be out in the open and playing.

Re: please help me some questions

Albinos tend to be C. Aeneus (bronze) and the females get around 3" with the males being a bit smaller. These don't school as much and can be quite happy I have found in a group of 2-3, plus they tend to wink (look down then up really quick).

Re: please help me some questions

It is your choice but I found when kept in groups less than 5/6 they were very shy and hid all the time.

Re: please help me some questions

A mature female can hit the 2" mark, but most males I've seen or owned have stayed around the 1.5" size. I have kept a school in a 5G and as a rule of thumb myself have always over filtered. I had used a sponge filter that was good for a 30G tank but the sponge shape was more tall than wid...

Re: please help me some questions

In a 5G I would say go for the pandas, in a group of 5 and just keep up your maintence. I will say mine absolutely adore plants and I have found them more active with it in the tank. Constantly nuzzling the swords and crypts I have.

Re: upgrading tank and moving fish

I can't foresee an issue I usually take old media or an established sponge filter from a healthy tank to cycle a new one within an hour. Just don't clean your filters let them run on the new tank for an hour or two than transfer the fish. I wouldn't bother with the methyl blue dip at all, if anythin...

Re: please help me some questions

As long as you keep your maintence up as the little ones do need good water quality I would say could fit 6-8 in there depending on your decor. I would suggest if you could fit it as I don't see if this is a longer style tank (which would be great) or a high tank a small piece of driftwood like rose...

I'm taking them off his hands as he wants to go in a different direction with his tank. Once mine they will go into a sand bottom 75G. Thanks again everyone

Started out as a banjo cat but grew horns?

So having recently lost one of my banjos (damn kitty cats went fishing I think) I've been looking around for some more. A friend offered me his, but his have "horns". He swears when bought these were not on the fish (bought around 2" now around 4/5"). So curious as to what his ar...

Re: Corydoras semiaquilis or something equally fun?

I bought the lot (7) for $40 each, and waiting for them to settle a bit for more pics. They are sitting in my quaretine tank ATM which makes good pics hard as it has neon orange gravel. Looks like a good mix of sexs, 3m 3f and one undetermined. For wild caught they are in amazing shape, eating like ...

Thank you, I wasn't 100% on the id because they all had full facial patterns. Managed to pin down the manager and he told me they were wild caught and he has a new batch of on order from the same supplier for some more wilds, can't wait to see what he is going to bring in next.

Corydoras semiaquilis or something equally fun?

Found some gorgeous specimens labelled as C. Semiaquilis (black Peru cory) so hoping for some help as the LFS I frequent notoriously mislabels corys. Bought them anyway but want to make sure I'm caring for them properly, thanks in advance :-p

Re: 20 Gallon Long Stock

For the pepper corys, they usually lay on glass or on plants. If your going to want to breed enough to sell might want to invest in a hang on breeder box to hatch the eggs in, I use the marina one with the air pump so it circulates the main tank water through it. If just for your enjoyment, make sur...

Re: 90 Gallon Tank Reboot

I would suggest leaving the corys out of the 90G completely. I have never kept corys and X-rays together but have heard horror stories from friends who have, ie tailless/finless corys to snack corys. Granted I have no idea how big the Louisiana crays get but these ones were electric blue marbles and...

Re: Sterbai Sexing

There's always a chance as long as there is a male, just better odds if you have multiple males for each female. At one of my LFS a pair of albino aenus were dropped off, they have successfully spawned 3 times in the tank with surviving fry in a community tank.

Re: Acheiving high oxygenation

I use these with the matching weights that slip on the tubing. I create a bubble wall along the back of the tank, with an air pump good for a 100G on my 75G. No muss no fuss with suction cups, the weights eventually sink into the sand leaving the tubing lying on top. Creates a beautiful effect with ...

Re: Warmer Water Corydoras sp?

Lol I had an albino male that would often bury it's head almost up to the gills like that. Used to scare me all the time thinking he had passed. I'd reach in with my hand pulling him up, would get him half way up the tank and it was like he was sleeping as he would give a wiggle then swim off. My hu...

Re: Sandpatch enough for cory's?

I'd say it is enough. Your gravel don't look sharp to me. Funny thing is that the Corys I adopted from tanks with gravel are the ones with the longest barberls. Barbelloss is caused by bacterial infections due to bad water / possible scratches by real sharp gravel. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/1...

Re: Sandpatch enough for cory's?

I would worry about the gravel, I had used similiar before and noticed barbels being worn off with the sharp edges. I removed it and used playsand instead and the barbels grew back. Granted I had a full gravel bottom when this happened not a split, so it may work but I would add to the sandy part. W...

Re: ID "spotted" corydora

I had a C. Duplicareus with weird bubble growths on it, after showing Ian a picture I was told that the growths were from a high protein diet. The bubble growths were fat bubbles, I adjusted his food and the growths were gone in a month. Since then after adjusting my cory collection's diet, I have n...

If it parasites then your whole tank may be infected. By treating the whole tank your preventing this from happening to the others in an ongoing process.

Re: Sick Sterbai

Paraguard should work well for parasites, but could be harmful to your beneficial bacteria I have heard. So I'd use it and do your WC to suck up any parasites that fall off, might be best to treat the whole tank to be safe. Hope this helps.

I was going to say ich but this almost looks like a parasite just with the heavy concentration of clumping together, with a secondary case of fin rot.

Re: Long winded request for help with inexplicible Tank Deat

The only issue I have found with the quick crete sand was washing it enough to get it clean, as for filters why not go with straight sponge filters? I run 2-80 G sponges in my 75G and that's it. The fish are healthy happy and breeding lol. Plus provide extra food source if yours decide to breed. I o...

Re: new corys with stress/health problems

When I received some WC corys they had red spot and Ian recommended daily WC with full dose of melafix. I'm fairly certain this would work for yours as well, the excess slime could be from a ammonia build up in the bag from shipping. Hope this helps until someone who is more an expert can add.

Re: Long winded request for help with inexplicible Tank Deat

For my two bits, I use quick Crete play sand in all my tanks. Requires a lot of washing before adding to tanks but it is only $10 for a 50 lb bag and can be found at most Home Depots. I grow plants in it and my corys love it no barbel issues. I have started recently adding a layer of black sand Cari...

Even though this is an old thread, I must say thank you. I have been driving myself crazy trying to prevent hybridization in my cory collection. Most informative and wondering if any new ones added to the list ?
