Re: Live tips to save cory eggs
These do look like bladder snails. I was under the impression, perhaps mistakenly, that these were just young Ramshorn snails. But they probably aren't. I'll have to try again and next time select my snails more carefully. Up to now, I know very little about aquarium snails, other than I really don'...

BNs can be aggressive killers?
Hi all, In an old thread ( Re: Ancistrus sp. Albino X Albino Equals what? ), I reported my male ABN trapping a smaller female in his cave and killing her. Speculation was that he wanted to spawn with her and she wasn't cooperative, then he got aggressive. Sadly, it happened again, but this time the ...

Re: Live tips to save cory eggs
Okay, so I came home today and found a small clump of fresh cory eggs in my community tank. ...I picked out 40 eggs and divided them evenly into two plastic containers in 1.5 cm depth of tank water. To one cup I added five small RH snails. No airstones, relying only on diffusive oxygen exchange. Af...

Re: My spotted orange seam plecos: Hemiancistrus guahiborum (L106)
...it was a 3" fish at less than £20. Gosh, no matter how long I stay in this hobby, no matter how often the issue presents itself, I will forever be flabbergasted by the discrepancies in availability and price between continents! We can't find L397 at a reasonable price in the USA, and yet fi...

Re: My spotted orange seam plecos: Hemiancistrus guahiborum (L106)
Although I've read the description of L122, I'm not sure I would be able to tell the difference between it and guahiborum if I saw them both in a fish store.

Re: Mustard spot pleco (Panaqolus albomaculatus) project
one more tip to share, ... He loves his carrots... I slightly blanched them, with my theory being that if it was too hard to eat easily, he'd quickly give up on eating it, but now he has developed a taste for it I will feed unblanched. Okay, thanks. I've tried carrot before with my ABNs an clown pl...

Re: Mustard spot pleco (Panaqolus albomaculatus) project
Thanks for the pics, Teresa. My fish all have what I would call "rough" sides, but none yet have clearly larger odontodes.

Re: Feeding Ancistrus
I use bamboo shish kebab skewers. I impale the veggie (raw sweet potato is the favorite among my plecos) and then anchor the stick by securing it in a veggie clip with a suction cup to hold it against the glass near the bottom of the tank.

Wet Spot Tropical Fish (http://www.wetspottropicalfish.com/index.php/fish, then scroll down to "LORICARIIDS") is a major seller on the West Coast of the USA, both as a internet retailer and as a walk-in-the-front-door retail store. Their prices online and in-store are typically similar, al...

Re: Agressive and wounded Ancistrus HELP!
I agree that water quality might now be a bigger problem than the original aggression. You'd be surprised at how fast a decent sized fish like your pleco can foul the water. If you can't control water quality in the new tank, you might be better off putting the fish back in the original tank, if tha...

Yeah, I am pleased, although also impatient for more development and progress. \:d/ :YMPRAY: (-| One thing that is evident in the "before" (original) and "after" dorsal view pictures is how much the body has filled out (although again, not enough to clearly indicate male vs. fema...

Re: Mustard spot pleco (Panaqolus albomaculatus) project
Hi Teresa, Thank you. Don't sweat the rush. I'm more interested in seeing the extent of the odontodes in relation to the body size you already measured than I am in knowing that the fish is brand new to you and not conditioned. Take your time and don't stress over needing to take pics before it is c...

Re: Anyone able to ID this pleco.
That's a common mislabeling as far as I've seen. I don't know about the name "fire glow" pleco, but I've found several stores that sell albomaculatus as "galaxy plecos" EVEN if they go on to correctly ID them as Panaqolus albomaculatus instead of any of the Leporacanthicus that g...

Re: Anyone able to ID this pleco.
I do not expect that the lack of wood in its past diet will cause a problem as long as you are simultaneously offering a diversity of foods, some wood and some easier-to-digest foods. The only real problem I could envision, and this is not a guarantee that it would happen, is that if the animal had ...
