Re: Lucky escape

good news for your guppy mate! I once had to do small surgery on a Carnegiella myersi (smallest species of hatchetfish afaik). it had tried to swallow a mosquito larvae but the thing ended up being stuck in his gill. the unlucky fish turned to its side and was just floating there. i managed to remov...

Hi and welcome to this forum :d I'm pretty sure your fish is Callichthys callichthys click the URL for info may I ask what size your tank is? looks very small to me... Next to that, the fish you rescued does better in groups of his own species. So, if you have an appropriate tank and you can find mo...

Devoting a tank to a single fish (or species) is something i have been thinking about for a while as well, and when i came across this vid i knew i want one at some point in my life! maybe you like it as well: TrfOmfQwhG8 just make sure you have a proper lid on the tank if you choose to go for a fir...

Re: How to safely add sand into my aquarium

I would do as racoll says, cleaning the sand is important for many reasons. about adding the sand, I always use a piece of plastic tube at least as long as the height of the tank and pour the sand through it. this way it is easy to divide the sand over the bottom of your tank and the water will stay...

Re: Ancistrus an aufwuchs grazer?

I think there are two things to say about this right now: 1. your fishes recently moved tanks and territories still need to be made 2. they are probably taking advantage of some sort of food source they find in/on the leafs. most Loricariidae eat wood and those that haven't got the dentals to do so ...

oh great, food wise your doing a good job! I always had a piece of zuchini in the tank and refreshed it every day, but I think your fish probably not grows so quickly because of limited tank space. good to hear it's getting a bigger tank!

Re: Help for ID my catfish

This looks like Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus to me. I had a pardalis for a while, also bought when 3 cm, and had to re-home it at 30 cm due to lack of tank space... this made me very sad. he grew from 3 to 30 cm in 2,5 years. I am a bit surprised your fish is 'just' 38 cm after 24 years. they can a...

Looks great Gert! I have one small thing to say about making your own background with wood attached to it. please drill small holes in the back of the wood and in the background and glue (use aquarium kit) a wooden plug into the hole in the wood, so you can stick that into the hole in the background...

Your tank is overstocked, even to American standards. and that says it all actually. you can keep repeating to yourself and us everything is going well and the fish are happy, but believe us, they are not. they are just surviving. it's the same as an overstocked Malawi tank. so little room for fish ...

I'm no expert, but this does look like a L075 to me. it's not the stereotype, but in most fish species, some individuals show different colours or patterns so I wouldn't worry about that too much. and if it's not L075, what would it be then? doesn't look like any of the known Peckoltia species, and ...

a good lens is far more important than the quality of the body (the camera). for example i have a pretty basic digital camera (Canon EOS 400D) but to get good pictures of my smaller fish or fry, i have had good results using the 60 mm f/2.8 macro lens. this lens was about the same price as the camer...

Re: Pitbull digging?

Hi,

these fish like to bury themselves into the substrate. makes them feel safe. this is easiest in a substrate of fine sand.

I would highly recommend you to replace those shiny gravel colours for a sandy substrate, the pit bulls will benefit from that and you get to see their natural behaviour.
