Glyptothorax telchitta?

Post by dmcat »

I have 2 of this for more than 2 years. Bought as Glyptothorax telchitta but I guess they don't look like those... I would appreciate opinions on their identification. Again, no geography unfortunately.
Thanks,
DM

This is not telchitta. I am not sure what it is though, looks like a SE Asian species rather than an Indian species to me.

Vicar: It's about this letter you sent me regarding my insurance claim.
Devious: Oh, yeah, well, you see, it's just that we're not, as yet, totally satisfied with the grounds of your claim.
Vicar: But it says something about filling my mouth in with cement.
Devious: Oh well, that's just insurance jargon, you know.

Based on color pattern and overall appearance, I'd say this is either G. burmanicus or G. cavia.

Silurus, what would you lean to, G. burmanicus or G. cavia? I see that the first picture of G. cavia in Cat-eLog shows exactly what I have...

I have not seen very young G. burmanicus, but because the adults of both species are very similar in appearance, I would assume that young G. burmanicus look like young G. cavia. I have only seen very young G. cavia (the first picture in the Cat-eLog was taken by me during the 2004 India trip...on a day that Jools was laid out in the hotel after a negative experience with Indian cuisine).

Based on availability, it seems that G. cavia is more likely (because I have encountered G. cavia exported as aquarium fish, but not G. burmanicus).
