but I can't determine which one as only a couple have the spot on the caudal peduncle, neither of which appear to be fish seen in the trade?

A quick look says pulcher or rufescens. Are these the ones you thought of, Martin?

I dont like him side by side with rtc coz hes so edgy always bumping around.

doesn't have a spot on the caudal peduncle. I agree with the guys it looks like

Mystus pulcher

. That said, becuase of where you are in the world, there is a small chance it could be something unusual we don't see very often in the west and that I am unfamiliar with.

Pulcher was my first though, but the photos in clog don't appear to have the stripes seen in this fish, which was what threw me. As @Jools says, it maybe something unknown/unusual?

I doubt I helped I am trying to learn here as well. My experience with Mystus is rather small but FWIW I don't recall ever coming across a pulcher either in person or on the forums. It appears though Mystus are not commonly kept either, so a rare Mystus is a double rarity
