Post by fishopolis »

this is tough one for me.. but someone here must have seen these before.. was sold as L106, but I'm not sure that's correct? they're pretty flat looking, not that shy, and pattern/colour variable depending on mood..
can anyone help identify?

They are Lithoxancistrus orinoco. I found one on Sunday and had my id confirmed by Nathan Lujan on my Facebook group.

It's not in Pseudancistrus now according to Nathan

It was your ID from Nathan that gave me the tip that this was orinoco. Thanks! :-)

But on that note, do we know of the publication that establishes the generic reassignment? (I should have asked Nathan previously on FB). I know the Catalog of Fishes is not always up to date, but the COF lists Lithoxancistrus orinoco as a synonym and Pseudancistrus orinoco as the valid name. Thanks in advance.

Cheers, Eric

Not sure of source for genera change. Might be something Nathan is working on

It might be Nathan's own paper from 2015: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/ar ... 0314003054

Good stuff, thanks Steve.

I think this means the generic placement change is stable enough - I've made that change. Also trying to source more info / pics on L. yekuana which appears to be sympatric and so could also turn up.
