Brown spotted well fed small catfish

Post by Phoebe »

I bought a fishtank with three catfish. They are about 3 inch (8 cm) long and robust. The colors are identical to the picture. The owner didn't know which catfish it was. I can't tell much about them, I only have them for a couple of days. They stay in a fishtank with plenty wood and plants, they are very afraid, I never see them, even at night. I did't have the opportunity to take a picture of the belly, does anybody knows which catfish this is?

. The fish in your photo is a nice mature male.

I have already sought some information about this species.
By chance, I have already put them in an aquarium with the right living conditions.
I love them. I hope I also have a female.

In your photos, the sides of the fish, just before the tail, look hairy. These are "odontodes" that grow more on males than females.

If you have females, you can use this photo to help tell females from males: https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/im ... e_id=19895

Thank you for the clear explanation
I just saw a second and one and she has not odontes, so probably that's a woman.
I'm not going to see them at the bottom yet. First get used to their new environment.
