Whip tail Identification

Post by Oliverp1 »

Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone could identify these 2 whiptail catfish? I’ve tried looking online and have found next to no info on either of them and would like find out what species they are! Need to know if either will get too big and there requirements.

Thanks in advance!

Hi
And welcome to PlanetCatfish!
First one looks like either Sturisoma or Sturisomatichthys, but unusual colouring - never seen one so dark!
Second one looks like a juvenile ?
Thanks
Martin

I agree with Martin that the first one looks like a species of but its coloured very dark which I'd be bit worried about - the tank appears quite bright and this may affect that.

The other one looks more like because there is no "crying" pre-eye stripe rather it's a big black patch.

That was my first thought but then found it didn't look like any of the cat-elog photos so started doubting my instinct!
