Hi guys,
I'm Francesco, Italian, but I live in Belgium.
Congratulation for this very interesting forum!
I'd need your help to identify my last L-number about 4-5 cm long.
Please, see photo.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Francesco

Thank you Jools! I was not sure because I didn't well see the nine soft rays on the dorsal fin.

Please, could you (or other experts) confirm that juvenile in this second picture is an Ancistrus "honeycomb" (wabenmunster)? What is the difference between this species and Ancistrus sp. "Paraguay"?
Thanks for your help.
Francesco

Hi discusfra,

This is not Wabenmuster. Does it have a hint of green iridescence? If so, I'd say . has more of a tan-orange base color. Both rio Tocantins and rio Paraguay Ancistrus have irregular dark marks, dividing the lighter base color into odd shapes like Ys and Ls. Wabenmuster have almost perfect circles of pale color divided by dark boundaries.

Eric

Hi Bellaire,

Which species do you mean? There are a few discussed above. In general, the Ancistrus shown above are all easy to keep, but I've heard a few people have difficulty with A. dolichopterus. I'm not sure why; maybe they need acidic pH. I'm not familiar.

Cheers. Eric
