HELP NEEDED WITH IDENTIFICATION

Post by Pootz »

Hi
I have recently had some corydoras which I was told were Julii.
When I joined the cory groups on Facebook I was told on 3 groups that I had not got Julii but I had, in fact, got C102 (i did have 4 but one passed away)

I'm new to cory and fish in general so I was unsure what C102 meant so im hoping you guys on here could explain a bit about them to me in simple terms.
Many thanks

(I know they're on gravel at the moment as I was given bad advice but I have ordered sand substrate for them and will be changing to that as soon as it arrives)

Hi Pootz,

Your fish looks more like regular to me, a very close relative to . I wouldn't go with C102 because I associate that fish with thicker, bolder markings on the body, with leopardus more spotted, like yours. Nice find! :-)

The "C" numbering system, and the "CW" numbering system are used to give common names to particular corys which have not been described by science and given Latin names.

Cheers, Eric

Thank you for your help and the explanation.
The reason I was told c102 was due to the snout being longer than the julii, which I was originally told they were by the shop, and they looked lighter in colour to the photos id found of the leopard's.

Would you definitely say leopard's as the breed then?
I'm trying to find out as I'd like to buy more and don't want to end up with the wrong ones for fear of cross breeding, (if in fact they ever do breed)

Your fish are still relatively new and the fish aren't full grown, so their colors are a bit faded and undeveloped. Give them some time to condition well and you can make a better decision about leopardus vs. C102.

If the store had more of that original shipment that you bought from, now is the time to go back and buy more if they have any. Make sure the fish have the long snout, or else you'll end up with a different species for sure.

Cheers, Eric

Thanks, unfortunately I had the last 4 in the tank.
They did say they were expecting more but if they're not getting the breeds correct there's no guarantee they'll have the same ones coming in .
I'll pop up and see tomorrow
