Pleco identification help

Post by Mizcreant »

I bought this pleco because he looked different. If it's a common pleco that's fine I will love it anyway. I'm just trying to figure out what kind of pleco it is. It's in a tank with mopani wood so the tannins make the coloration look different. In clear water it is kind of like a golden orangeish color.

Hi Mizcreant,

Welcome to Planetcatfish!

Your fish is definitely one of the common plecos, Pterygoplichthys pardalis or Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus. It has some resemblance to Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps, but doesn't look right. Watch it as it grows. Its pattern will become clear soon enough.

Cheers,
Eric
