Hello my name is Bruno but L77?

Post by Caol_ila »

Hi!

I bought this fish a while ago just labeled as "Bruno" which would lead you to believe this is L77/137 Cochliodon cochliodon - Rusty red bruno. I have 2 of those and they differ in one big thing - this little one has smal spots everywhere. Afaik the Armbruster site says C.cochliodon never has spots...so which L is this fish?

Yeah, it's kind of red for L138. Might be L167, but I couldn't find pics of the adult coloration.

My fish is ~9 cm (3.5'') tl so it might not have adult coloration yet? It is very reddish in natura though...

I think the adult coloration of your fish is not going to differ much. What I meant was that I couldn't find pics with the adult coloration of L167 to compare against your fish.
All of the pics of L167 I could find are of juvenile fish, with large black spots (which I think, but am not certain, will decrease in size as the fish grows).

I took another foto of the little one. Checking the L167 they look quite different. Why isnt it in the catelog?

I just got an email from Jon Armbruster answering what this fish is:

>>Yep, that is Cochliodon cochliodon - or as it is more properly known these days - Hypostomus cochliodon. Cochliodon just got sunk.

Jon<<

thx Jon
