Distribution of Tachysurus truncatus (+ others)
is listed in the Cat-E-Log as being distributed in "South and southeast Asia: Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand."
The species was described from a locality in China, so this distribution is at least incomplete, but I am pretty certain they have not been recorded in any of these countries.
It looks like this information might stem from gbif, which has a list of specimens originally labelled Tachysurus truncatus that were later determined to be .
(Many Asian ariids were at one point placed in genus Tachysurus, family Tachysuridae, but the bagrids kept the name.)
Catalog of Fishes just lists the distribution of (true) Tachysurus truncatus as "East Asia: Yangtze River basin, China."
Based on the map, I believe there may be similar errors in other species in the genus. The genus Tachysurus is restricted to East Asia + Vietnam.
(For some reason has a CLOG map point in Africa?)

Thanks Narelle,
I've added the Yangtze to its distribution, but I don't know enough about the genus to prune every other entry yet. I'll leave that for the experts to inform more before I make additional updates.
Cheers, Eric

I can fix the issue with the occurrence in Africa. This happens when the body of water (in this case, the River Ma) doesn't have co-ordinates entered in the database.

I got it Jools. Also, I recorded the incorrect entries for truncatus then deleted them from the CLOG entry for now. If they need to be restored, I have them written down.
Cheers, Eric

Re: Distribution of Tachysurus truncatus (+ others)
Sorry, it seems like the distribution for T. truncatus was fixed in the functional areas (map, search) but the CLOG text still lists the original incorrect distribution (including South and Southeast Asia, excluding China/East Asia).

Re: Distribution of Tachysurus truncatus (+ others)
I thought the bot would catch it sooner, but it hasn't yet. So I submitted a correction this morning to "East Asia: Yangtze River basin, China."
Thanks again,
Eric

Re: Distribution of Tachysurus truncatus (+ others)
Yeah, that bot, (fibber) only passes by each species once a week and then only updates that species if it hasn't been checked in 93 days. I have literally no idea why 93 days - so have changed it to 28.
Cheers,
Jools
