Vicar: It's about this letter you sent me regarding my insurance claim.
Devious: Oh, yeah, well, you see, it's just that we're not, as yet, totally satisfied with the grounds of your claim.
Vicar: But it says something about filling my mouth in with cement.
Devious: Oh well, that's just insurance jargon, you know.

(1) See my reply above to Sid the Guppy. $150,000 will do it for you
(2) Now, the koi (and some golden orf (warm-water-tolerant trout), shubunkin, and goldies) overwinter outside. They are hardy. Carp, essentially, really. This is not without its own tricks but quite doable and routine around here.
(3) Thank you!

Hey, Richard. It is lotus. "Russian Red" variety - scarlet red flowers. It is winter hardy. They are very rare now, but lotus are native in NY state too. Have to comb many swamps though to find one, I am told. This was $50 from a local retailer. (my PC says 2:59 pm ??)

Thanks! Yeah, it is called town drainage. Legally it is what they call an easement to the town of Greece (Rochester suburb) - I cannot touch it :(

Thanks!!! Smaller, much smaller, really :( . Wish I could build a whale pool for whale-size cats. :D I take it you missed the part where I declare my intent to move to your motherland Florida because otherwise you'd poke me about it, I am sure :D

Wow , Victor, didn't realize you were so close! Those ponds are beautiful. I love the heart shaped one of course - must have been for the better half
I also like your 'king tut' papyrus plants and the black elephant ear colocassia (I think). Birds must love that yard.

How's the herons in your area? Mine should be on their way across the lake to your house pretty soon now. You can keep them if you like
Racing, shoes and fish. Nothing else matters. Oh, and bacon.

Yep. 3.5 h from you on the other side of Lake Ontario. Thanks! Yes, the heart shaped one has a few more layers of meaning for me and my better half but it is a very tough riddle for those who don't know and my better half'd like to keep it that way.

Papyrus is one of my wife's faves. The elephant ears? We ain't got. Maybe you are referring to the lotus that Richard asked about above? Birds do like it. Doves like sitting on the gravel rocks because it mimics their color so well that they are hard to see. The smaller birds like the tall flowers, like purple cones - the seeds (nijer seed) they love. Most others mostly like our birdfeeders. We get some woodpeckers, chikadees, cardinals, robins, various sparrow-looking smaller variants, humming birds, black birds, an occasional hawk gets a squirell or a chipmunk or a sparrow.

Herons have not been seen for 2 years. This summer, one decided to land in the yard and started approaching the pond but as soon as I made a minute move in the kitchen window, the huge guy was off - they are wary birds and there too many neighbors, cars, dogs, kids, and stuff going on in the area that they prefer to stay away. They are the #1 threat to outside pond fish around here.

Thank you, DJ-Don! I am happy you liked it so much. As for wanting it, see above - although I know you are merely making a compliment, $150,000 will do it, that is if we soon find a new place to live in FL or some such warm spot. Hopefully, we'll start looking in Crkinney's vicinity, i.e., central FL, in a few days (we'll be driving there) and then move on towards south all the way to Miami/Homestead.

What fish are you keeping or maybe breeding in those little round ponds or in the heart shapped pond? Small ponds work great for breeding small aquarium fish even catfish. I wouldn't put any in with the koi as they would be a quick snack for them.

I wish I had a bigger yard or was in the suburbs so I could do more ponds and things like that.
