Snakes eat plecos

Almendáriz, A., Barriga, R., & Rivadeneira, C.D. 2017. Feeding behavior of Helicops pastazae Shreve 1934 (Serpentes, Colubridae, Dipsadinae) in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Herpetology Notes, 10, 449-451.

This is a short note, so there is no abstract. But it's an easy read if you ever thought, "Hey, I wonder if snakes will eat plecos." But a confounding detail is that that the snake (with pleco in mouth) was captured in a drift net. So did the snake feed on fish trapped in the net? The authors speculate that the snakes prey upon the plecos routinely (without the help of human nets).

Cheers, Eric
