Tank feedback section/drop down box to help give ideas ??

Hi, just wondering if it will happen or if anybody likes the idea.
If having a Aquaria/Tank comment section, would be good. Maybe some sort of drop down box that people can comment on others tanks. If they like or what could make it better etc.
Even a like button, but maybe not the like button. That could be to much like facebook.
I like the idea, how do others feel.

No, it doesn't mean that's a bad idea. I think we are so used to the instant feedback we get on other sites (but not always helpful), it can seem like crickets are chirping when responses take a day or more to receive here. But they'll be meaningful.

There has been a lot of discussion here about a like button over the years (viewtopic.php?f=37&t=41404), but the feature has its pros and cons. So far, this site has chosen to not create that feature.

But don't let that stop you from making suggestions. The next good idea is only one suggestion away.

Cheers, Eric

Hi Eric.

Yes i see exactly what you mean, for sure pros and cons with it. I read alot of the link you sent me and that seems to be along the lines of likes for written posts. That is also to me a bit pointless, thats why we can type and say what we think.

I just meant for the pictures of our tanks and tank running info. That in most ways could help people with what can be done better (setups for certain species so they will breed) and also how people think the tanks look, mostly good i think.

I think i would like it and enjoy if people help, as i'm no expert in catfish keeping (yet i hope).

But anyway, oneday maybe.

Thanks Macrae

Hi Macrae,

Yes for sure. There is value in that. I think one of the main worries is turning photos or posts into popularity contests, and what if you post something and you're hoping for a like from a specific person, but they don't like (or dislike) your post? Was it a snub? an insult? or have they just felt that other people's responses are sufficient to show how good a pic was?

Indeed, the issue gets muddy, but you can guess how many times I've seen posts or pictures and I wanted to like it without having to go to the trouble to type a post saying so. It would just be a quick gesture of approval or support.

Cheers, Eric

I could do this, and I think it has value, but it is quite a lot of work. There are so, so many other things we need to think about first.

If I wanted help with my tank I'd post a photo (or photos) of it in a new thread and ask for comments. My question for you is how your idea (which would require Jools to spend time coding) would work better than my current solution. There may be even some other solution that would be easier to implement but have all the benefits.

Yes Eric, i see all the things you say. It does seem to be alot more bad than good in doing it. And like jools said, alot of work for it which i didn't realize.

Just posting a pic and asking for help does seem the easier way for sure.
Thanks all for clarifying it, my idea wasn't the best, haha oh well !!
