I'm missing a few "Golden Oldies" in there:
-Amblydoras hancocki
-Acanthodoras spinosissimus or A cataphractus
-Sturisoma aureum ! or S barbatum or S pamense etc
-Lophiobagrus cyclurus
-Ameiurus melas
-Noturus gyrinus
-Hoplosternum littorale
-CALLICHTHYS CALLICHTHYS!!

And maybe a "newer" kid-on-the-block species:
-PHYLLONEMUS TYPUS!
-Ituglanis metae
-Mochokiella paynee
-Hara jerdoni
-Eresthis pusillus
Plan B should not automatically be twice as much explosives as Plan A

Um, shouldn't the CoTM include catfishes that someone has experience actually maintaining in the aquarium ? Let's not get carried away here...
I can actually write some CoTMs myself (been meaning to for some time)
Here's what I can offer:
Wallago leerii
Silurus asotus
Belodontichthys truncatus
Ompok bimaculatus
Silurichthys indragiriensis
Parailia pellucida
Acrochordonichthys rugosus
Akysis hendricksoni
Parakysis verrucosa/longirostris
Nanobagrus stellatus
Amblyceps mangois
Rhamdia quelen
Bagrus docmac
Bagroides melapterus
Leiocassis poecilopterus
Microsynodontis batesii

For something a little more interesting:
Pseudostegophilus nemurus
I have kept all of these cats at one time or another (I know, I know they are mostly Asian cats).
Jools, just don't hold me to my promise (I'll try my darndest to write them up, but as with everyone here, I'm a person with too many fishes and too little time).
If there's a howling demand for any one of the above being featured as a CoTM real soon (like right now). I may be suffciently cowed to get off my lazy butt and actually do something about it.

Jools,

I know you've done some research on Sturisoma lately (one of Sid's suggestions).

And I know it's dangerous to make public commitments, but I'm already working towards a CotM on Chiloglanis neumanni. Others I could do include Lopiobagrus cyclurus, Phyllonemus typus, Synodontis polli (Sid, you should join me on this!) and S. tanganaicae (maybe with help frrom Greg P.).

I had meant to write you a separate email on this, but I'll say it here instead: now that there are so many more people involved in Planet Catfish through the Forum, we should mobilize more people to contribute their time and experience both for the CotMs and the Catalog pix and data.

Well, I'm going for Amblydoras hancocki this month. I think HH is going to do one for March, but I would appreciate a little stockpile of these guys to help me out in months I am short of time. I should do a Loricarinae representative soon too.

Lophiobagrus is meant to be able to kill fish with it's mucus. Anyone know more about that? If they do I'll split this topic off and put it in Africa.

More suggestions wlecome!

Exept for Erestes pusillus and Noturus Gyrinus, I've kept all the species from my list, some still are residing at home right this moment.

Heok Hee; that's why I didn't suggest things like Wallago or Vandellia; CotM should be fish keepable in a home tank.

Jools, I've got Lophio's in with other fish, and only once experienced something strange; Ill post it in African catfish. My young, captive born Lophio still does OK. They can be VERY aggressive among each other, however!

I was quite surprised to see Sturisoma missing; this is a well-known, breedable catfish, and even non-catfishgeeks love them, because they can be kept and bred in planted community tanks. I can imagine -if I try- people not liking hide-outs like Dorads or spiny amok makers like Heteropneustes etc, but fancy looking, captive bred aureums? They were easily available way before all those "snowball" "goldnugget" etc Pleco's...

Yes and no. If you notice we have already featured fish like Phractocephalus and Pangasius but with a heavy emphasis on "buyer beware" and the irresponsibility of blinding buying these sorts of fish.

All true. The reason I haven't featured them to this point is (a) there is a very good Shane's World article on them, and (b) I need to finish of my research on what species is what. They hybridise easily which doesn't help.

I think the Microsynodontis avenue would be a good idea, they're getting seen more often in UK as of late and are a manageable size for even quite small aquaria! 8)

True, although it would be very similar indeed to the one for the gibbiceps.

The forth of July is a holiday in the U.S. In the southern U.S. we celebrate with a cook out and fire works. My personal favaorite is a fish fry.I would chose Ictalurs punctatus and grits with hush puppys and a cold Ice tea.

I believe you may have hit it just as Jools was making an update - to the best of my knowledge, this should now work. I've split the two posts here out to a separate post, as it's got nothing to do with the subject of "requests for CotM".

Just an update that I know I am really behind with CotM articles this year. My plan is to catch up ASAP now. I was wondering;

a) If anyone has suggestions as to species to write about and

b)If anyone would like to write (or ask someone to write) a piece.

I'm going to need four to get back to currency. So, if I don't have to write four myself, that'd be awesome!

Cheers,
