Two pairs and after some digging around apparently my water conditions are more suitable...luckily.

Did the conditions at time of capture get recorded...apart from temperature?

Unfortunately not. We do have several pics of the location. As the water was slow flowing and coming through a palm swamp I would guess it to have been slightly acidic (maybe 6.5) and fairly soft.

Great pics! Too bad they didn't make it here in the US. I would have been willing to give them a home - LOL!

Nope, but here is me collecting them (see also Uganda thread). Blackish water, little current, heavy vegetation maybe 6" of water and at least the same in mud and leaf litter.

Yes, and only here at PC would the vast majority of people replying to a 5 year old post have been forum participants when the posting was originally made!

JJ visits Jools' fishroom!

Post by Jools »

Last weekend I had the pleasure of a visit by Planet's premier photographer contributor Johnny Jensen. While the Dane only spent a day photographing my fishes, we got through most of them! I will add lots of pics soon, meantime, an update on JJ's site here:

The time has come to strip down this fishroom. Actually, it's fishroom v4.

V1 was my first multi-tank set-up in my bedroom at parental home; it got moved a mile across town (because of a girl) and then came back a year later. V2 was set-up in the first place I owned, it took my first import of fishes from a collecting trip to Peru in 2000 - eight tanks on 4 dual stands. Later, in the same property I converted a typical Edinburgh tenement boxroom into my first "proper fishroom" (v3). I will, one day, find some photos of it, I know they exist somewhere. I also had a 48x18x18 display tank in the house before I moved out of Edinburgh.

Fishroom v4 is the one featured in this thread. Hundreds of photos on this site were taken in this room, fishes from seven families of fish have bred here. It has produced a lot of shrimp. It's been graced by aquatic dignitaries from the world over and seen my three children grow. The elder two now have their own tanks. The floor is warped and one end of the room is supported by two car jacks under the floor joists. The walls a damp on one side and the fitted kitchen sink is rotten. Time to strip down, dry and plan v5!

I have some things for sale before Christmas if you are local and interested, drop me a PM or email. I thought it better to post here to keep it on thread, but will post in the for sale section to link here.

Tanks (painted black on all sides except one, cover glass and runners included)

36x12x12 (two)

24x15x12 (two)

Good luck with the refurb Jools. If you're anything like me, you'll enjoy the process of rebuilding the fish house as much as the fish-keeping!

Pity I'm not a bit closer to take some fish off your hands!

Good luck with the rebuild of your new fish house Jools! I must admit, I don't like fish house builds....except when they are some one else's :d
Hope you'll let us join in on your progress!!

I would love the Centromuchlus schulzi but as above said, I'm not from your neighborhood either :-p

Good luck Jools :-BD
