Is privet safe for plecos?

Yes, if privet is Ligustrum ovalifolium, have used it myself.

Thanks Jools. I'll have to check with my local master gardener (yeah, there is such a thing, and I'm blessed to work with one) about what species is in general landscaping in my area.
