Ancistrus Suitability

Post by tprice »

I am setting up a planted Discus aquarium and need to know if the Ancistrus species would be compatible with both the Discus and the plants. I am aware that Plecos are known to annoy Discus and will make short work of the plants in the Aquarium. The tank is 48"*24"*18" and also contains seven Corydoras Adolfoi.

All of the Ancistrus spp. that I am aware of that are black with white spots are blackwater fish and should do fine in your tank. They also should not be too hard on your plants. If they do feed on the Discus, (which I have never actually seen happen) just think of it as extra food for the Ancistrus and replace the Discus as necessary since they are really just window dressing for the plecos.
