Juvenile L24/L25

Post by DHarris »

I've always loved the look of these two fish but all of the ones that show up in my LFS are usually huge.
Recently a couple of the stores I frequent got some small ones in ranging from about 2.5"-4".
Unfortunately, as is often he case, they just go with common name and they're all listed as either scarlet or redfin. Some have a few dark spots but for the most part they're all a drab brownish/green.
I assumed the ones with the spots were l25, though I could very easily be mistaken.

I'd like to pick one up but have been looking for a specimen with particularly red fins. So far all are mostly yellowish with maybe a hint of pink on the upper and lower lobes of the tail.

Do L24 & L25 grow into the red colored fins or are they born with the red? Is there also a noticeable difference to their body color or markings when they're young?

Thanks.
