L24 growouts in 35 Gallon with sponge filter only?
Planning to separate some l24s to growout.
they are about 3 inchers.
planning to put them in a 35 gallon with lots of caves.
but planning to just use sponge filters as tank filter.
do you guys think 2 sponge filters will be able to handle bio load from these guys?

sponge filters can have a large capacity - it just depends on how large the filter is. I use 70 * 30 cm sponges, 5 of 5 cm thick, in my 4 meter tank.
But I´ve never seen a complete set offered in petshops being of a decent size. If you refer to these - no, these are worthless, for any use, unless you keep shrimp

Squid if you use the number 5 or 6 sponge filters for ata you will be fine with 2 in there but I would have to many 3" fry in that small tank to be honest.

thanks! i have some bigger tanks, but they are so small now. I'm worried they wont be able to compete with my bigger plecos for food.

Also depends on how often and volume of water change.

Re: L24 growouts in 35 Gallon with sponge filter only?
Back in March I put a 1” Pseuda L427 in my big community tank, which has several other plecs and bottom-feeding cichlids. In 6 months it has grown to 3” and is now challenging the 6” L233 and the 4” L397 for food. So I wouldn’t worry too much about them going hungry in a busy tank.
