Ancistrus ID

Post by stuby »

I have had this Ancistrus for a long time now and they look like L184's to me...... I bought them as LDA74 spotted blue Medusa. They came out of Columbia from what the imported said and as far as I know L184 come out of Brazil. Any help with a ID would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chuck

Hi,

this is Anicstrus macrophthalmus which comes from Venezuela and Columbia.
The amount of white spots can vary quite a lot in this species, sometimes they don't hava any or sometimes pattern is similar to L 184.

Cheers,

Thank you..... I have some of them without the big spots as well. Will have to take a closer look at them. Hopefully I am able to breed them both and see if the spots stay true in each group.
