How can i breed the Red Lizard Catfish spawn?

Post by speedway »

Hi there,

I was lucky :d to get about 70 small fishes out of the spawn of the Red Lizard Catfish.
I started to feed them with spirulina powder and brine shrimps powder which I mixed with some water and then put it on some small spits to let it dry. When I put this into the water the powder detaches a little bit more slowly than putting the powder directly into the water.

I also use a pump to get oxigen into the water (10 times a day for 15 minutes).

But after about now 6 days from the beginning of the hatching, it seems that more small fishes are going to die. (Lost 2 yesterday and today)

It seems that not everything is okay in the tank.

I see two main problems.
1. The food is sinking to the bottom and then something like mold is growing on it.
2. The food does not seem to be the correct one or enough. (seems like they are hungry)

Maybe there is someone out there who has experience in growing up these fishes :-C and may have some tips how I can avoid loosing more fishes. :((

Have a nice day
best regards

Dieter

I also use a pump to get oxigen into the water (10 times a day for 15 minutes).
You need to increase the Oxygen levels to be constantly on 24 hrs a day.

Also have you checked Shanes World article of "The mysterious Red Lizard Catfish" in reproduction? It is a great article .

Hi medeka
thanks for the hint with Shanes World article.
I think I made 3 big mistakes until now. (less Oxygen, less cleaning, wrong feading)
I will increase the Oxygen level now and I will clean the tank more often.
I also put some sea almond tree leaves into the water and started with feeding of "NobilFluid Artemia".

I am curious about how it will develop :)

Regards
Dieter

Hi medeka,

I put all my information and "knowledge" I could gather until know into a breeding report.

Maybe you can find some interesting information in it.
