L134 Breeding Tank Size

Post by tolstoy21 »

Quick question . . .

What's the typical size tank people use for a breeding group of 6 to 8 L134s. My fish room has auto water change, so water changes and water quality should not be a concern. I'm just wondering what would be too small, and what would be too excessive?

I'm pretty new to plecos (been breeding tetra and apisto species mostly), so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hello tolstoy21,

You might pull it off well in a 20gal long, but I'd recommend a 30, 33, or 40 gal tank.

Cheers, Eric

Thanks for the reply.

Right now, I have 6 young L134s growing out in a 29 gallon. So presumably, they could just stay in there?

Yeah I would say so.

Good luck with them.

Hello tolstoy21,
I've bred mine in a 30 (30"x18"x12") and 40 (30"x18"x 16") breeders and have been successful on both setups.
They are shy and need lots of hiding places, caves and/or driftwood. Well aerated tank and flow as well.
Cheers
Martin
