Another new Otocinclus

Post by lfinley58 »

Hello all -

For those keeping up with such things a new species of Otocinclus is described in the newest issue of Copeia (2002, No. 4). The species is named O. tapirape and it is from the rio Araguaia system of central Brazil (state of Goias).

ABSTRACT

A new species of Otocinclus, Otocinclus tapirape, is described. The new taxon differs from other species of the genus by the following combination of characters: low number of trunk lateral plates; canal-bearing plates of trunk median plate series truncated, restricted to the anterior field; presence of iris diverticulum; expanded subnasal lamina on lateral ethmoid; and nuchal plate narrow. The phylogenetic relationships of the new species are ((Otocinclus affinis, Otocinclus flexilis)(Otocinclus xakriaba (Otocinclus tapirape, remaining Otocinclus species))).

Hi!

Thanks for the info.
Anyone has an idea under what trade name that Otocinclus ( if he had one) was known inthe hobby ( if it has already been imported)!
Cheers
Yann

Copeia cost

Post by lfinley58 »

Hi, I'll do this one quick. Individual membership in ASIH, which gives you a subscription to Copeia, now runs $60.00 US a year. If there is interest I can supply the address for correspondence.

Yann, the other info I had put on addressed your question. I will try to redo it tomorrow night. Sorry that I lost it.
