Hi,i am new to keeping cories and have a planted tank with no residents at the moment ,which i would like to set up as a tank for cories only.the tank measures 81cm x40cm x45cm,and is approx 30 gallons.please can you advise me on number of cories that i can keep as a shoal in this tank? I am thinking of one species such as pandas maybe or bronze. The filter will be a fluval 207, and tank is planted ,together with bogwood.this tank has low t5 lighting and is planted with low light plants which are all established.any advice on making this tank successful for the fish will be gratefully received. Thank you.

In a 30, species only, you could happily keep 15-20, maaayyyybe couple more depending on species of cory (size), filtration and maintenance. You'd probably be able to keep more pandas than bronze since they're smaller.

Hi Lurcher,

I tend to overstock my tanks, so I would consider putting 15-20 corys in a tank that size, but probably I would step it down a bit. I would recommend limiting yourself to 15 or so. Very likely, the corys you get will be subadults or small adults. If so, then as they grow your tank will be really crowded, especially if they start breeding.

Please share photos when you have them set up.
Good luck.
Cheers, Eric

Guessing you will use sand for the substrate. It's the best all-rounder for Corys. Only another thing to say is if you're not trying to breed them, consider dither fishes which will help with seeing your corys more.

Cardinals are an excellent choice, I use mostly and a variety of things for the corys that like cooler water. You may also wish to consider several or a smaller number of .
