Corydoras Eques setup

Species only setup, my first group arrived in the mail today, and my next group is still coming soon!

Tank is simply a 20g long, will house the 8 corydoras eques and eques alone.
Planted with sag grass, Brazilian pennywort, duckweed, and water lettuce. Rooibos tea for tannins as well as Indian Almond Leaves.

And some photos of the cories, first 4 arrived, 2 males and 2 females, adults and very chunky.

Good luck with them. C. eques is a lovely species. Hard to breed, but you don't succeed until you try.

Cheers, Eric

I plan on seasonally changing the tank to replicate the rain season (dec-may for the Manaus region of Brazil) and dry season (june-nov) to help trigger these guys. Increase water current during rain season and higher water level/cooler temps. Warmer temps, lower water in dry season. And keeping floating plants since seems these guys prefer them for spawning.

Your fish look lovely. Such a pretty species. Hopefully they will have babies for you!

Happy to see you posting here. You disappeared from the other forum, and with Covid about and what not, you just don't know.

My final 4 arrived today, I now total 3 females 5 males.

They like playing in the current of their tank, I have a series of internal filters set up.

Very lovely fish, active on all levels of the tank too

Already seeing some boys chasing the girls around, lots playing in the current of the internal filters. So far fairly promising.
Added some plants from another tank, they seem to enjoy them.

They look amazing MissNoodle!
You've inspired me to setup a new dedicated tank for some of these.

Btw, what are you feeding these little guys?

Hopefully you see some eggs very soon!

3x weekly bloodworms, other days either Fluval Bug Bites or OmegaOne flakes. Theyre a little fussier on food than my others, won't take shrimp pellets or other tab type foods.

Wow....I hope your group becomes productive!!!! They look so happy too. I have my 8 in a 29 gal with a big java moss floating above that's giving shade. I also have some anubias NaNa at the substrate level. But you've inspire me to get some leaves for the tannin. Currently my tank is so crystal clear and the fish only chase each other sometimes while they hid most of the time. I think the two big angel fish who are being kept here as exiles from my other tank might be scaring them too but my other cories dont find angels threatening at all. My eques seem very shy.

I like keeping some leaf litter in most my tanks, tannins are good for softwater fish especially :D and ive found that certain fish like Farlowella twigs naturally will graze on the leaf litter and it's an easy source of biofilm for them. So there's so many perks to leaf litter

<"Same for me">, the vast majority of water courses would naturally flow through forested areas and by definition will have leaves and <"woody debris present">.

Why should our tanks be any different? Why isn't going to be an advantage in the tank as well?

cheers Darrel

I was growing out some black emperor tetra fry in their tank, but they've been homed this week, so now it's ember tetras and boraras urophthalmoides as tankmates with them.

I keep black emperors in one of my 55gs, lovely fish. I spawned them back in December and have been growing them til I could sex them so I could boost my females in the group.

Very gravid females, and the males chase the females daily, but nothing yet! But the males are fairly persistent, should only be a matter of time as well.

Big belly on these ladies
