How to know which C.vittatus & Counterpart for them

Post by Caol_ila »

Hi!

I traded my Bettas away for 4 Corydoras sp. "Longnose" the exporter sits in Manaus but i have no specific origin of the fish. Checking the Cory pages im still uncertain which one it could be...on i love corys it is labeled as C. vittatus "Manaus" . Any tips to determine the species? No pics available. They have no black markings in the dorsal fin. The black stripe on the flank goes to the middle of the body where the dorsal ends. The head has a metallic shimmer.

It has only been a year or so since Dr Isaac Isbruecker made some changes within Corydoradinae, without going into to greater detail, he gave full species status to several sub-species. C. blochi blochi & C. blochi vittatus became;

C. blochi pair

C. vittatus

I have a group of 8 C. vittatusand the body markings are quite variable, even to the extent that some look like different species.

There isn't one that readily come to mind, I would ned to spend some time and check out species from the same location and see if there are any with similar markings.

Not at all, all the ones you see are wild imports and the are usually only available onec or twice a year.

Hi! I was shopping today so i went just with the look...i bought a fish that looks exactly the same but has a shortsnout...could be an agassizi...ill wait a couple o'days and organize a cam to post some pics...i just checked the tank and he blends in perfectly with the other 4 looks like they accept him...

ahh...forgot and i bought a single (twas the last one) Cory "julii" with spots all over the body about 4 cm long...black spot in the dorsal tini spots on the head no line on the side...suppose its some trilineatus morph...hes still hiding...

hes come out and has better color now...line on the side...not your typical roundsnout trilineatus...checking the pics this could be a leopardus...
cheers
