Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?

Seems to be working out ok with the Ancistrus and the Midnights. "Esmerelda" has a hollow up towards the front that she snugs herself into. When the Midnights start moving around (usually when I drop food in just before I turn out the lights) she usually high-tails it out of there and goes and hides somewhere else. She is smaller than they are. There looks to be plenty of room for the other two females under the log when I ad them.

UPDATE: Ahhh I found out where she goes when the Midnights kick her out, she's in one of the decorations fighting with the one Bumblebee cat lol !

On thursday I will be getting my long awaited first woodcats! A trio of

Tatia dunni

(@Marc I ordered the dunni look-alikes that you thought were a new species… received normal dunni. still amazing fish) , two adult mystery Tatia (look similar to

Tatia brunnea

), and a trio of juvenile fish that are suspected to be the same species as the two adult fish.

The ich is definitely gone from my tank as the largest surviving denticetopsis has happily taken up residence behind the filter intake, is eating like a pig, and looks to be perfectly healthy. Nitrates are 0.

I did not use the PVC pipe idea. I tried it, but the dencitetopsis hated it. They were constantly swimming around and looking stressed so I put the driftwood back in.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to do this long-lived thread, which more and more became a kind of blog over the years.

Seems a shame to close it Marc - although input is (much) less than initially, it's good to have the ability to update/add to the thread as required. I'm always keen to read any new posts when they appear in this thread!

Personally, I don't see any reason to lock it. Threads tend to close themselves when interest or inclination run out - I don't think this should be any exception and I certainly wouldn't want anyone newly enthusiastic about auchenipterids to be closed out. Part of the thing that makes PlanetCatfish not Facebook is that old threads can be found and resurrected.

The challenge is for all remaining woodcat enthusiasts that are "PC members" to carry the torch.

I agree with what Jools 100% this thread inspired me to get into Centromochlus and am looking forward to when I can blog about my specimens and succesess. I'm hoping to reproduce Centromochlus reticulatus and make them available to aquarist in my province (Maybe even throught out Canada!).

I think they're the same thing as Wrasse has. They've been in the UK a couple of times, I think the consensus is that they're a n. sp.

I am not sure we've got them on the site.

This is one family of catfish that needs re-classifying... Tatia and Centromochlids.

The above fish has a similar pattern to Tatia Brunnea. I asked Steven Grant his view - 'I've checked the neurocranium of your fish and they do not match brunnea. Colour pattern is similar but osteology is different'...

(or, at least, what we think it is) for some time now and a group that was also imported at the same time as Richard's fishes. When similar sizes they looked very similar but I have changed my mind on them over time. They're just not the same thing when compared as adult fishes.

I've not looked at osteology, nor have I considered geography. However, I have seen the larger growing fish in small size now and they have thresher caudal fins, plus they grow to three times the size and have different caudal and adipose fin morphology when larger. I strongly suspect someone looking at them professionally would find more differences. The patterning is very similar but I am not sure that counts for a lot given the other differences.

entry with an SL of Kruseman's fishes - is that known? I think the info there is that from the description which is usually a minimum maximum size!

After a couple of months I realeased my two Tatia strigata in the tank where their father and mother and uncle reside.
They're about 5 cm now and doing fine.
By the way: It's a boy and a girl!
