Jaguar Catfish & Pictus Catfish Compatibility

Post by BullFishkeeping »

I've got a 65 gallon tank with two oddball catfish currently - a blind and a . My Raphael cat is out all the time, as he doesn't seem to have any concept of lights on/lights off, and sleeps/swims about whenever he feels like it. While it's unfortunate he is lacking eyes, it does make him a pretty interesting aquarium inhabitant.

I know he won't bother with any fish - he can't hunt for them, and used to be in a 36 gallon tank with numerous small fish. My concern is the Jaguar - will she kill Pictus cats? They're quite small compared to her, and she's got a massive mouth.

How fast is the jaguar? I know the pictus is a high speed swimmer from experience but I've never kept jaguars. The pictus grows to a bit less than half the size of the jaguar from what I know.

If the lios can catch it, it will attempt to eat it.

I think the jaguar will attempt to prey on pictus sooner or later. It may work out (depending on your tank setup the jag may be more or less outgoing) but I'd think this is an unnecessary risk. $0.02

I too have 27 pictus cats in with 2 jags in a 240 gal but the jags are same length as the 3"-4" pictus. Still, makes me a bit uneasy and I watch closely.

Hello I have a jaguar catfish with 2 pictus catfish in 47 gallons and it is no problem, they are a territory in tank and they do no fight.
