suitable tankmates for Pictus & costatus

Post by Drfunkenstein57 »

Hi All,

I have a 40" x 18"x18" tank which I have had for many years containing 2x Pimolodus Pictus & 2x Platydoras Costatus (raphael). All these fish are mature, I have had the 2 costatus for over 20 yrs & the Pictus for around 16 years. At the moment there is nothing else in the tank which is decorated with large chunks of bogwood, there is a strong current from 2 separate internal filters + an overhead trickle filter fed from one of these filters.
I had a Brachysynodontus Batensoda in with them for over 23 years, but sadly he is no longer with us. I would like to add some mid - water fish in this tank, I would like barbs of some type, but could do 6 -8 Scissortail rasboras or some giant danios. I have spanner barbs in mind a suitable tank mates - would love to hear other members suggestions.

My suggestion would be a few more P pictus. After all, they are a rather social species. But I can't say whether a few young ones would be a good idea for het old ones.

What about a school of Brachydanio albolineatus?

Thanks for the post Bas,
I would like to add some more Pictus cats, but like you suggest - the Brachydanio albolineatus would provide some activity in the upper regions of this tank. The tank is well filtrated & currently understocked , so I may try at least 2 more pictus & 6 b. Albolineatus.
I am partial to danios & rasboras, I used to keep & show Danio aquapinnatus back in my show days.
