Looking for pleco species that exist in Rio Guaporé.

I am no longer looking as I have changed river themes.

Thank you
Stephen

Hi Stephen,

The species search tool provides only one answer: . You can try GBIF.org to see if they have any documented collections. Here are two quickly done occurrence records from GBIF, one looking for all Loricariidae along the Guapore and its surrounding waters, the second looking specifically for Hypostominae (plecos). Notice there are no direct hits for plecos in the Guapore. This I find odd, because among the Loricariidae results are a few plecos (see list); I suspect this might be linked to whether or not the records are geolocated reliably, but even then it doesn't make sense - if in one list, they should appear in the other. So to answer your question, apparently indeed there are very few "plecos" collected in the guapore. Other loricariids are present, not many plecos.

Regards, Eric

P.S., I know my map details were a bit too broad, as I see on this list, and I know P. nix is not from the Guapore. If you try this analysis, be a little more selective in the polygons you draw to include only the Guapore and the nearby areas.

Thank you Eric much appreciated, I'll take a look at the list later.

I forgot to mention that my tank is themed on the Rio Guaporé so I'm quite strict on my stocking.
I also found the Hypoptopoma baileyi when searching the Guaporé here on planetcatfish.
There must be many more plecos in the Rio Guaporé but a lack of official documentation.

where are those data from? (edit: I saw it now, the images did not show up on my mobile phone)
I'd doubt the first one and say it might be Peckoltia sp. "Río San Julian" it is referring to. If the mentioned Costa Marques is the town I know, just on the brazilian-bolivian border, I'd also doubt that and think it's another species, based on geographical distance. Haven't collected either of the two in Guaporé, well, not in the short stretch I have fished in.

What we did find is L 463, L 464, L 514, P. joselimaianus, Cochliodon sp. "Bolivia", Peckoltia sp. "Río San Julian". More to find for sure!

Hi Daniel,

Just on this, where exactly is the Rio San Julian, sounds like a cool place. :-) Can you give me GPS co-ords and I will update the site.

Cheers,

Jools
