Salt and Rafael cats

Post by fishguy1978 »

My spotted rafael (Agamyxis pectinifrons) made the foolish choice of crawling into my male BNP's cave while he was out of the house. Like any home owner the BNP wasn't to happy and gave the spotted a thrashing. I moved the spotted to hospital and did a dose of paraguard. It's missing skin from the dorsal back almost to the caudal on both sides. Can I add salt to the tank or should I use something else for treatment? Loaned my paraguard to a friend with an ich outbreak. I have polyguard, kanaplex and meth blue.

I've had the related Platydoras costatus for 27 years, and every now and then I cured with salt. Never more than 3 g/l, bringing this up with 1 g/l per day

I trust you can count with metrics.

29g is just under 120L so approximately 40g or 9 teaspoons

How detrimental would it be if I added all 40 grams same day?

Gave the rafael a meth blue bath, 99% water change and dosed with kanaplex. Ribs and thorns exposed on one side. Not so bad on the other.

Does not appear to have had any negative effects on either the dither guppies nor the cat. He is still active.

Feeding time in the fish room and the spotted was out. I think it must be preying on BNP fry with that fat belly.
