Sick Synodontis Lucipinnis Help Appreciated

Post by Kern17 »

Hello everyone,

I have a group of 10 syno catfish that are all 6 years old. They have been happy and healthy in a 135 gallon tank. The biggest male seems to have gotten ill. I noticed last night and immediately put him in a quarantine tank. He has a lot of swelling/bloat and eye popping. He was perfectly fine last night, swimming like nothing was wrong in the quarantine, just looked beat up. This morning is a different story, he has gotten worse very quickly. I have him in a quarantine alone dosed with melafix. I am not sure the cause and what I can do to help him. Any advice is really appreciated. He was the largest male in the tank and I saw him regularly, this was quite sudden. Currently doing a water change on the main tank.

Hi Kern17,

Sorry to learn about this. In my experience, eye popping is usually due to bacterial infections and possibly kidney damage. I've never successfully treated a fish with bad Popeye. I hope you have better luck.

Regards,
Eric
